Here's another thing to consider when posting maps- tunes and tuning styles are pretty unique. So trying to post a commercially-tuned ROM by removing Cobb's or EcuTek's signatures is going to be obvious. I would say a good rule about posting is -if you can't explain why the changes were made then don't do it. What I mean by this is posting up a ROM, claiming you tuned it and then when someone asks why did you modify the timing in that area, you can't explain. Catch my drift?

Yeah, you're right. It would be really cool to have some RomRaider stage map unique to this site. If you look at a lot of the OTS maps, most of them are not signficantly drastic from the stock map, except for maybe boost targets/WDC%. I think it would be pretty cool if we came up with some maps on our own, starting from the stock map and each of us contributing our ideas for changing and then testing them on our own cars.

This is what I would love to see the site turn into... A place where everyone can give their input to come up with the best tune.

I agree, and that's kind of what I attempted with the tuning discussion and base map forum. Unfortunately we have to be careful what we post. As more people start tuning with open source, I see this growing -- especially when we get some professional tuners.

I've removed the block on image uploading. Follow the guidelines in this thread -- do not upload professionally tuned images without the consent of the author. We'll create our own library of base ROMs.

ev8siv3 has also created another forum geared more toward tuning than the development of RomRaider. Check out http://www.osecuroms.org

I don't understand what sort of trouble we could get into really. Think about it, is there a disclaimer anywhere about Cobb saying that we can't download their image from our ecu? After all, it is OUR own ecu, let us do what we want with it.
I think there should be a section for images tuned solely for specific staged setups like....different turbos, or stock car, or stock car + exhaust, etc.
I don't beleive we need everyone's stage 2.1 maps(I admit I uploaded mine hehe).
Just my .02

I think this is the wrong attitude to have here. The, "I dont see what the big deal is anyway," mentality is the exact type that can ruin this site. Why would you try to leverage a legality when you know you are morally wrong? It IS your ECU, but it ISNT your map. When you buy an AP, you pay for a license to use it, and the AP encoded maps. Taking a map off any ECU and giving it to someone else infringes on that license, and is stealing.

Look at it this way, if you download a pirated copy of an application, and install it on YOUR computer, it does not become YOUR application. Or if you buy the latest game, you cant copy the CD/DVD and give it to your friend to install on his PC.

This all falls under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act.

Thank you by the way, to those who host and contribute to this site. Your time and dedication is truly appreciated. :D
