All Java applications have suddenly started running terribly slow on my computer and I haven't been able to figure out why. Memory usage is normal, CPU usage seems to be very high. I get an irritating delay whenever doing simple operations and longer operations are running very slow (ie, opening an image in RomRaider is taking a good 30-45 seconds). Meanwhile, my laptop is opening them just fine.
So, I've got everything backed up on another hard drive all ready to reinstall Windows, as it's been over a year since I've done so. I'll be at an autox all day tomorrow, so you guys have about 36 hours to tell me what the problem is and save me from reinstalling. Help! Thanks in advance!

Remove any Sun Java Programs, remove any of there "temp" folders. Clean your registery, reinsatall Java and it should work. I had the same problem once. Hope this helps.

Ok, now I'm a bit irritated. I did all that, no luck. Scanned for/fixed viruses and spyware, no luck. REINSTALLED WINDOWS, STILL SLOW. GRR!!

Was that a fresh reformat and reinstall or just a reinstall over top of it?

Reformatted. It's nice to have a fresh install, but really frustrating.

Any new drivers that you've downloaded and installed recently? Could be that newer version is causing problems. I know you reinstalled, but you might have downloaded the same newer driver that is causing problems. Any new devices you've added recently, internal or external? I had a problem with a bad compactflash drive that caused my system to hang every once in a while and also slow down.
So, this only occurs with Java apps?

The only thing I did was add a monitor. It's a long shot but I'll try without it this afternoon.
This doesn't even happen with all Java apps -- it only happens when I run RomRaider FROM NetBeans.
Edit: What do ya know.. it's the monitor. Works fine if I disable it. Guess I have some tinkering to do tonight.

Yeah, I thought about your post when it first started happening.. I got a new driver from Dell and it took care of it. Yay!
