Tell me how to get the logger to use this device:

usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
ftdi_sio 2-1:1.0: FTDI USB Serial Device converter detected
drivers/usb/serial/ftdi_sio.c: Detected FT232BM
usb 2-1: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0

The logger don't have it listed in the pull down. :(

Code:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Parameter portName must not be null or empty
        at RomRaider.util.ParamChecker.checkNotNullOrEmpty(ParamChecker.java:46)
        at RomRaider.io.connection.EcuConnectionImpl.<init>(EcuConnectionImpl.java:35)
        at RomRaider.logger.comms.manager.QueryManagerImpl.doEcuInit(QueryManagerImpl.java:122)
        at RomRaider.logger.comms.manager.QueryManagerImpl.run(QueryManagerImpl.java:103)
        at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:595)

Looks like i need to tell it the port somehow, but the list is empty. The port is /dev/ttyUSB0. Help?

Add -Xmx256M to the command line arguments when starting RomRaider.

Linux (only x86, x86_64, ia64 here but more in the ToyBox)

RXTXcomm.jar goes in /jre/lib/ext (under java)
librxtxSerial.so goes in /jre/lib/[machine type] (i386 for instance)
Make sure the user is in group lock or uucp so lockfiles work.

I found this in the INSTALL help file.

I was damn tired last night and I had kjust had to put my cat to sleep that day so I wasn't thinkin too well. I'll try again tonight to get it goin.

You can flash in linux right?

Ok I got it all setup but the laptop is at home. So we will find out tonight. Since I have my FDTI driver loaded and mapped to /dev/ttySUSB1 , and the proper serial libs in place in the sun jre I should be able to flash and log now right? We will see tonight for sure I guess. Then I think I have to write a gentoo wiki.

So flashing isn't supported? I'd have to dual boot the puppy? :(

The only flashing tools available are EcuFlash and ecuExplorer, no flashing code has been added to RomRaider (yet).

So yes, you're either going to have to dual boot, or possibly VMWare would work, but I wouldn't try it on a machine with that little memory.

Probably best to just install XP on the machine for now. Try to get at least another 128-256M or ram in there if it can take it, too.

I'll throw win2k on there fer now unless I have problems with the tatrix drivers (which I might because of win2k USB has some bugs in its bus drivers). It came with 2k. Its just a pita to have to do dual boot. I don't want to rely on another layer like VMware when flashing. I would rather almost just get the flash code and port it myself to a command line app. I might have a 256 meg stick that I can replace one of the 128's with. Its an old Beta laptop that I got for free cause I worked heavily on the audio driver for the OEM. I have had it since 2000. It has a P4m 1.6 ghz. I'll figure something out. I get to try out the logger tonight! :)

There is always VMware server. But that would mean I woudl have to reinstall gentoo. Not too big of a deal, but you know how long that takes (like a week). :/

Stop using a s*** linux distro then :D

Nah, I'm giving you a hard time.

Though, if you want fast and easy to install, give Slackware a shot. Past that, if you want easy and complete, give Ubuntu a try. I'm a linux user since the first 2.0 kernels, I've tried all sorts of distros, Ubuntu has made me the happiest.

Only using Linux since the 2.0 kernels? Hah, I've been using it since the 1.2 kernel days and Slackware was the primary distro!

Sounds like gabedude is motivated to port the flashing code to something that will compile with GCC, go for it!

Nice! My first distro was in fact Slackware. Think I remember 2.0.32 kernel. My pops subscribed to some service that mailed us new distros as they came out.

A family of nerds.

I was also a contributor on the Alsa project for some AC97 audio drivers.
