Thanks for the link! There are a couple of differences to that thread in this one.
1) That thread asked 'what do you want' whereas I'm saying 'this is what I want, how do you feel about it' 2) That thread was purely in the context of subaru rom tuning. I want to make this app a general purpose tuner.
Also, I'm more about the meta organisation of the thing, not the details.
I agree that 3d sucks.
I agree that table controls should be shared across tables, though in my model, in a little window/toolbar of it's own, not hard coded into the side/top/bottom.
A lot of the other stuff in there falls under performance, architecture, features, scope, tweaks, etc. Those things aren't all that relevant to what I'm proposing/wanting. I agree with many/most of them too, though.
My agenda is get things generalised and stable and on a good footing for adding an entire ECU family to. Then it's to do just that. Fixing 3d is WAY low on my list, no matter how bad it is :-) Nothing to stop others getting in and doing small fixes/improvements in the mean time or in the middle, though. Fixing 3d would/will be fun. I'd love to do that, but it's not a priority for me.
Tabs for context could work. Also, shortcut buttons in a small toolbar to get you to a view/window set profile. Same sort of thing. Quick access to a set of windows. I work this way extensively in Linux and Mac. I have 8 - 16 virtual desktops and I spacially arrange my windows on each. Then I can switch back and forward between contexts rapidly with ctrl alt left/right. Yes, you're right, this is needed, tabs are a possiblity, quick switch buttons another, etc. Thanks :-)
Re the categories thing, that's on my hitlist, but nothing to do with this thread. Same goes for WIDE maf scaling "tables", I have a bunch of 1024 cell lookup tables, and maf is one of them, it needs a dedicated editor view. But that's a feature, not a meta gui thing.
Fred.
