Changing ECU. ADM to USDM

Just wondering what kind of issues would be encountered if swapping in a US ECU for a MY08 Sti or other suitable US ECU into an 08 Australian Sti?

Has anyone ever done this?

Doesnt work
Wont connect to the BIU for one, wont work with cam/crank signals either

Any ideas why cam and crank sensors would be any different? The engines are the same.

Excuse my ignorance but what is BIU.

Thanks for the input. I really want to be able to solve this issue in order to run Cobb and their new flex implementation. Unless of course Merp makes a flex system for 33 bit ecu's.

Why not flashing US Base Map to the ECU? I am not sure it will work or not. but one of the cobb guys said you might try with a smiley face but he did not give a definitive answer, on the other hand RR is way faster and better than the cobb in terms of logging and usability.

I know user aijii is testing with success an improved version of MerpMod for flex fueling for the same 08 sti ....

Body Integration Unit aka a body module

Try flashing in a US tune and you will quickly see why the boot sector is different to stop the wrong crank/cam signal from being used

Aijii has been running flex fuel using Merpmod for a month now, perfectly. I'm working on porting more Roms. If you are running AZ1G202G, you're in luck.
