Hi,
I dont know is it legal or not to list disassembled assembly language listing of Subaru ECU. This is to help the larger audience to help participating on decoding or finding out some of the ECU control logic.

I think most folks here have crossed sword with assembly language before..but with no proper IDA tool to reverse engineering the listing and as a result less people are helping not because of they are not willing but no tool to help.

As a start,an export listing through ask request ,send via PM should help.

I am keen to read through the list while reading the ROM binary on another windows. this way is faster to trace the logic out.

Seems to me that anyone who provides a full assembly language listing would be on thin ice, legally speaking.

It's probably safe to post excerpts with commentary - I think that would be covered under "fair use" just like posting an excerpt from a book you're commenting on - but still... I think they key problem is that nobody wants to hire a lawyer. :)

i see ..may be break down by function-..like AFR control ,.instead of 2-3 people trying to decode whole codes of 32bits and 16bits system..breaking it to smaller blocks .and getting volunteers to contribute may speed up the process.

Maybe listing some vectors into a well known rom of common functionality? A getting started guide would be very nice.

I'm sure IDA pro would be needed for the easiest hacking, though a listing and howto using free tools would be best. Pipe dream I know.

Nonsense. FHI probably uses a high-level language whose processor generates the machine code directly, which means an assembly file is likely never created. How could you copyright something that doesn't exist? Also, nobody seems to have any qualms or compunction about posting ROM images here, and those DO contain a copyright notice.

In practice, posting large chunks of assembler code isn't the best way to explain how the software works. Pseudo code and/or flowcharts work better.

There are a couple of free disassemblers which claim to support the Hitachi/Renesas SH 2 processors. One is near the bottom of the page at http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_utility.php. The other is near the middle of the page at http://www.rockbox.org/tools.html.

My understanding of IP law differs substantially from yours, Jon.
Hopefully we'll never have to learn which of us is right. :)
