I am looking for information on generating, copying, cloning and otherwise manipulating CAN bus signals. I have done a number of intra-brand engine swaps and the use of CAN is going to present a problem for engine swaps on newer cars.

For example, let's say I want to swap a LS2 into a BMW E46 (just suppose :D ) the tachometer in the BMW cluster is run off of the CAN bus. I want to learn how to generate the proper signal and send it to the gauge. I am decent at swaps and the associated problems, but I know next to nothing about networking  .

I've had a few Subarus and have followed the progress on the Open Ecu front with much interest (even th ough I tune my Legacy with a Cobb's Street Tuner  ) so this seemed like a good place to ask. The GM ECU software is well known and works great, but there is nobody doing what I want to with the CAN system that I can find.

Thanks in advance for any help.
