Well, as most probably know, the LC-1 that was bought from donation money and sent to me here down under for integration into the RomRaider Logger was defective. It's now about 2 weeks later and I've just installed the replacement that Innovate promptly sent (thanks Felipe @ Innovate!!) after I contacted them with the problem.

We wired it up and tested it this afternoon and all looks healthy and working as expected. Now all I have to do is get it hooked into the logger...... :D

(ETA: a couple of weeks, at least...)

Just to nag, keep in mind some abstracted interface that pretty much any external data logging device could implement. I'm only a couple months from a laptop ;) Then I can get the TXS Tuner Pro working :)

Where do we stand with the LC-1 integration? Have I missed the messages and it's already up and running or is it still in the works?

Thanks,

Don

It should be in the next release, unless Paul has any issues. Yay!

I'm sorry I did not come across this earlier. I had heard of the RomRaider project, but hadn't really run into it until I was dong some research today.

I actually wrote the free SDK here at Innovate. It was intended to make it easier for 3rd party developers to take digital data from our various devices. Unfortunately, as an ActiveX control, it isn't really suitable for a cross platform effort.

However, I just spoke with our President and he has no objections to my porting the C++ classes used inside the SDK to Java. In fact, his primary regret is that he did not get an opportunity to contribute an LC-1 to the project.

The advantage to porting our existing classes would be that all our wideband sources (LM-1, LC-1, ST-12) would be supported, as well as our non-lambda data sources (aux channels on LM-1, LMA-3, etc.). Individual channels in our MTS chain could then be selected for logging.

I did not get a chance to reconstruct the build environment today (there appear to be references to classes not included in the basic SRC directory), but I did spend some time experimenting with the current version and reviewing the included source. Based on what I saw, I'd be happy to contribute some time integrating the ported classes as well.

Please don't take this offer the wrong way. I can see that the project already has the development talent necessary to integrate one of our widebands. I just know from my experience of contributing to some GNU projects in the past that there often isn't enough time to put everything one would like into these projects. Since we sell hardware and already give away all our software, this just seemed like a place where I could easily kick in some existing expertise/knowledge without a conflict of interest.

If my offer is too late, or my status as a developer at a commercial vendor makes it inappropriate, I understand. In that case, please do not hesitate to ask me any questions you might have about the low level protocol used by the LC-1.

Hi Joe, thanks for introducing yourself! I know that I for one would be more then happy to call on your expertise for the LC-1 integration work. A Java port of the SDK would be a fantastic start! It would save a lot of time, I'm sure, especially since we'll be able to control and log so much more then just the LC-1.

I think you'll find all source files and libraries required to compile and run RomRaider from source is in the repository, you probably just need to set up your classpath to include the jars in the lib directory. Let me know if you have any issues.

As for the logger code, it still needs a lot of cleanup work and could be a bit better optimized/thought out in places, but overall it's coming along ok. We were thinking along the lines of a generic external sensor interface for the integration of sensor inputs to be logged. Your input/suggestions on this are also welcomed.

Hope to see you around here some more! :D

Hi,

I copied the repository and did a quick project with Netbeans and the build looked OK. I'll pick up an openport cable and start sucking up to my co-worker with a WRX ;)

I'll start on the SDK port right away. That should go pretty quickly. Once I have that working we can talk a bit about integration. I agree, you want a reusable mechanism for external channel data (data rows).

Blindstuff: Yes, I was planning on supporting both the newer MTS serial protocol and the older LM-1 protocol.

Where are you located?

Some times it takes a little bit for the cables..

I'll over night my cable to you if this speeds up anything

The OpenPort 1.3 cable arrived today. So I'm off and running.

Thanks for the offer though.
