It'd be nice if at least core people setup their pushes to be published in IRC. It'd be useful for me. If you're just tracking or doing occasional random commits, it's just noise as the commits of others that you push up get published too, and we've likely already seen those.

  1. Go to your repo page
  2. Click on Admin button near the top
  3. Click on Service Hooks on the left
  4. Scroll down about 1/3 to IRC, click it
  5. Fill out the details:

  • Server: irc.freenode.net
  • Port: 6667
  • Room: #romraider
  • Nick: Optionally put <username>-git in the Nick field with <username> being either your IRC one or github one or forum one, whatever you're known by, I guess. If you don't, it'll just be a Github bot name that enters, posts, leaves.

Passwords are optional on IRC, only do that if you register the -git nick on freenode and want it to be authenticated. Not really necessary. Chances of someone trying to fake it: low.

Finally: Check the "Active" box and hit the update settings button.

Pretty please, even if you don't use IRC, do this for us! Yes, I'm looking at you, mainly, Dale! But also that new guy that has 2 posts (I dragged a lurker out! Success!) and 10 commits, go him! :-)

Fred.

I just setup the master repo to announce too. I should have from the start, but didn't remember.
