I know that the stock ECU can only be flashed a certain number of times, but does any one have any idea how many times.
Has anyone actually had an ECU die from flashing to much?

It is supposedly hundreds of times. Some of the tuners said they've flashed an ECU 400-500 times with no problems. I haven't seen mention of anyone having any problems so I wouldn't worry about it.

if your using ECUflash to write it to your ecu then you shouldn't worry about it because it only writes on the parts of the ecu that were modified, which increases the amount of flashes that you could do.

I use Ecu Explorer, but I think it works the same way

From a technical standpoint the limit is extremely high. The voltage being run through the CMOS is low, and the amount of data being written is low. The only thing that would really cause the CMOS to be "unflashable" is some sort of damage, a voltage spike and/or thermal overload. Thermal overload could be caused from flashing over and over again within a short amount of time (say 30times in 30mins) so as long as you dont flash it a bunch of times in a row, you will probably not deteriorate the CMOS.

I hope that helps.

By the way, CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) is a common type of flashable ROM chip used in a LOT of computer boards.
