I have a Stage 2 Base map from Open Source Ecu Roms for an Auto 05 WRX Wagon. It's for 91 octane. My issue is, locally I use 93 octane and want to edit this map to accomodate the 93.

I'm a newbie to this and would like to start learning how to edit these maps. I don't want to heavily tweak it, just enough to get the benefiti of the higher octane.

Can anyone help me out? I'm using ECU Explorer and ECUFlash.

Thanks,

The main thing you're going to be able to do is probably add more timing advance. The way to do this is log a whole lot and study the logs. Increase the timing a bit in a certain area and compare before and after logs. If it made more power, increase it some more. If it didn't make more power, drop the timing back some.

I believe Cobb's maps actually run a bit more rich in the 93 octane map to accomodate the extra timing advance.

Im in the same boat as you dakota. I running a Cobb Stg2 right now (HKS catback, HKS DP 93 oct.) but I have qoncepts TXS intake that I bought off him. I want to install it but Cobbs map will not work with anything other than a stock intake. My only option is to revert it back to a stock map..

Subiestylez, I sold that because I didn't want to tune for it.. ;) I'm pretty lazy about tuning though, and I don't have the money to have anyone else do it. Playing with the MAF sensor scaling should be all you'll need to do, and the multiply function that will be in version 0.3.2 should make it easier. I'd start off by increasing all of the values by maybe 1% and see what that does.

Edit: When I took the intake off and put the stock airbox back in, I didn't reset the ECU, and it smelled rich, so I think it's fair to say it learned to richen things up because it flows better.

If I load the Stage 2 map as is at 91 Octane using 93 octane, is there any negative effects from this? I really want to go to the Stage 2 map and I'm too much of a newbie to edit the map myself.

Nope. It's just more conservative and wont make as much power.

Cool, I'm going to flash to Stage Two this weekend. I'll post the results. I would really like to know how to edit for 93 still.

I wouldn't edit anything until you see how your car likes the map. If your ignition advance multiplier is pegged at 16 under all conditions over a period of time, then you probably have some room from improvement. Every car is different, even those with the same mods, which is why there are a lot of gains to be had with a custom tune on a dyno.

To get a general idea of the difference between Cobb's 93 and 91 maps, see this post:
