Im making this post to help people who need to swap a ej20x/y into their normally 2.5l wrx. since the only available information is get a tune.

This is my basemap for my 2008 wrx ecu Az1e401A, I ran a cobb for a bit but found that cobb makes it extremely difficult to change things lots of strange issues, Phantom knock, Wastegate duty cycle problems, surging idle issues and random stalling no matter what I changed on the cobb. As soon as i switched to this simple basemap i made for it everything cleared up and the car feels normal. romraider ftw eventually converting to carberry dont fully understand how it works on the 32bit ecu

Original motor is 2.5L intake and everything was swapped over to the 2.0l
Using 93 oct pump

mods
exhaust no cats. (Doesnt matter for your car)
stock headers and uppipe (Doesnt matter for your car)
stock wrx td04
exhaust avcs untouched and unplugged. (Drives fine dont worry)

will work with ej20x for people swapping these motors into their wrx,
copy these tables to your map if you have a different ecu and need a base to play with. Use copy table and paste them in the other maps table.
CL Fueling Target Compensation A (Load)
CL Fueling Target Compensation B (Load)
CL Fueling Target Compensation Imm. Cruse (ECT)
Throttle Tip-in Enrichment A
Base Timing Primary Cruise
Base Timing Primary Non-Cruise
Rev Limit (Fuel Cut)
*****Make sure to copy these over made the mistake before and blew my motor up years ago (at 150 mph lol)
Feedback Correction Range (RPM)
Fine Correction Range (RPM)
Fine Correction Range (Load)
Rough Correction Range (RPM)
*************************

What needs to be changed. eventually
Clean up fueling for the difference in .5 of a L of displacement
Timing isnt spot on so its not as fast as it should be, but its quick and smooth 300 ish for me and i dont get any knock so room for improvement. Then again i like my cars to run hard.
Tune intake avcs to get the most out of it.

Having been involved in heaps of these swaps, I can assure you that fitting the EJ25 Exhaust cam gear to the EJ20 cam will make the car run infinitely better. The EJ20 runs 30 degrees of advance(20 degrees of retard in the stock ROM file) for power so the car will drive better with cam gears swapped over, make more power and takes more timing so it has a useable top end power.

CarBerry does not work in your car

Ill do you one better. install a Sti ecu, copy immo, use tgv wires to get exhaust avcs working.
did a video on it.

Latest basemap
upgraded to vf-48 turbo
Timing isnt fully done I know when i adjust the exhaust cams i can get alot more. still runs good
Fueling is fine, not spot on but works.
wastegate is aftermarket 1bar spring

so i have the old cam gears just to be clear the ej25 exhaust cam gears will fit and work on the ej20x? not the entire camshaft correct?

Correct. Fit the EJ25 Cam Gears only

Even better is using the JDM Twinscroll ECU from 2007-2013 for Legacy GT or Impreza SGT

Immobiliser does not need copying over as JDM does not have one :)

I got a 07 legacy gt ecu and the car does turn over but doesnt start, I realized its not can bus like the 08 wrx and therefore that was the reason.

HOWEVER I got a 2010 sti ecu gauge cluster immobilizer and ignition. installed it love the gauge cluster going to have to remove some of the leds for the things like dif lock dif temp and si drive, but the car drives amazingly better. huge difference between that wrx ecu and the sti one. ill share my map at the bottom of the post. i have not hooked up the exhaust avcs i have a sti harness on the way that i will take the plugs and wiring from extend and put terminals on then pin to the ecu. excited to get this thing to run right. the sti ecu made a huge difference.

2010 sti ecu with vf48 on ej20x
changes, Found the ignition timing to be very close to what i need. needs to be smoothed out but works no knock for me on 93
changed SI drive settings on pedal to always be in the sport sharp and took away the remove 90% of the power near redline
upped boost to target 20
Im running a aftermarket wastegate with a 14lb spring (which you should be fine with the stock just play with the wastegate duty cycle after understanding what your car targets. the ecu should just figure it out without an issue)

roms are on my google drive since the upload here is so iffy

and.... i did it wasnt hard at all to hex edit the map, merp mod hack for 2010 wrx sti ecu usdm AZ1G701I using the AZ1G202I
attached to google drive link above as 2010 sti merp mod.
includes speed density launch control, flex fuel. all the goodies.

only issue i have with this merp mod is it does not run as good as the 2010 sti map. it may just be some tables arent the same as the 2010 but theres a huge difference in the way it drives on this all merp mod settings are disabled.so it technically should just be a stock map

use ecu edit to change the parameters because romraider for some reason does not like reading merp mod tables.
place the ecu flash folder in the same directory as your normal ecu flash defnitions and go to options and under metadata directory select that folder and it will load all of the definitions
next step is to hookup the avcs i have a harness and some ecu pins coming so i can wire them up and pin them to the ecu.

if you guys need i can edit the maps for the merp mod just let me know your exact ecu like AZ1G701I

here is my diagrams for wiring up the exhaust avcs on the sti ecu.
find the plug on the ecu at the bottom of the page look at it from the back and match up the shape to know which plug exactly then use a pick to pull up the tab to unlock the connector so you can add more pins.

add the pins to the ecu which are 6 pins.
on the exhaust camshaft position sensor B just ground to the engine or body or spliced into pin 48 on engine to body harness
for the wl wire splice into 5 on the engine to body harness pinout is in the photo

Ok, u just cloned the chip, I have done that to my fxt. How did you get the abs light to go off?

Awesome info. I wonder if the physical ecu from sti to wrx are the same, if I pinned out my wrx ecu running a sti rom if I would have davcs.

Did you use the sti immo and cluster cause you didn’t want to clone the immo chip?

Also I would be pinning in the s-drive too
And maybe add dccd too later?

the wrx ecu wont run exhaust avcs unfortunately, it doesnt have the hardware to support it

What i did so i didnt have to use 2 keys for my car was install immobilizer ecu and gauge cluster then i zip tied the sti ignition key lock cylinder under the dash with the sti key in it. i only plugged in the part that has the immobilizer reader. so the key is just in the ignition under the dash had 0 issues. only thing i think maybe caused by that is the trunk isnt opening with the remote. no biggie just open with the lever.

I tried to take the leds out of the sti gauge cluster to remove si drive lights and diff temp, i was successful at desoldering all the leds however reassembling the gauge cluster i didnt realize that when you pull the needles of its game over for the cluster and it never was the same no matter what i did to get it to work the gas gauge would stick and flip around the rpm guage would stick i tried everything and could not fix it. i gave up and ordered a new sti gauge cluster and swapped over the immobilizer chips on the back works perfect now. just have all the sti leds flashing complaining but i figured i would just wire them up some day and simulate them to get them to turn off.

As for si drive I would like to get a sti dif and transmission but dont see that as likely due to the cost vs reward. so what i did with that was in the pedal tune make the car always in sport sharp.

I got around to wiring up the exhaust avcs as well. pinning the ecu was stupid easy. running the wires was the only annoying part. butchered an old sti harness to get the plugs and wiring. ran them myself to the ecu. works great. found that there really wasnt any extra timing i could add to the motor with the exhaust avcs fixed. but it is really nice to have the low end not feel like your towing a truck or something.

for how easy the exhaust avcs is to wire up i would recommend just buying the sti stuff on ebay for about $300 and converting the car to the sti ecu which is super easy as well.

the steering rack went bad out of nowhere on my subaru so i need to change that out going to swap with a sti rack soon.

future plans would be to convert to e85 and speed density

Ok, def worth the sti ecu, happy to know they are enough the same I can run the merp rom until I swapp, I’ll be getting a 6mt and a dccd shortly. My roommate bought a 2011 sti after looking at my black 2011 wrx hatch for 2 weeks. So I have his to look at of I need to.

Hi,

So I was attempting to do the STi ECU swap like you did, but I think I am missing something. I have the STi Key, ignition switch, and ECU. Am I missing the immobilizer module? If so, do you have a photo of it, or where it resides?
