Scenario:

'08 STi (A): Has an AP OTS Stage I map installed, all else stock.
'08 STi (B): Is currently bone stock

If one were to connect a Tactrix 2.0 cable to STi (A) and download the ROM, could that ROM be flashed successfully to STi (B)?

Apologies if this subject is covered elsewhere. I'm a noob with this stuff and figured this was a good place to start.

These open source tools exist so YOU can tune YOUR car. Please don't try and use them to steal.

The last I saw of Cobb tunes, they weren't that great anyway.

The purpose is to download the OTS ROM and compare it to the stock ROM. This of course would give the delta in numerous areas which is what I'm looking for. I want to see those differences and I want to know what the "professionals" are doing with these maps.

I don't like the idea of taking the stock ROM and making guesses as to what should or shouldn't be modified, with logging being the only tool to monitor whether the adjustments work or not. With a well known OTS map I can get an idea of what others are doing and then go that direction myself.

Also at this point with a stock vehicle it doesn't make sense to pay a professional for a custom tune. I'd like to understand how this stuff works before I take it in to someone for a stage 2+ tune. This is a learning experience, not just ripping off someone elses canned map.

AP prevents reading ROM with other flashing tools. If you want just to look at OTS map try AP with acesstuner software.

Really?

If it's theory you want to learn, you don't need your specific model year's rom to make comparisons with. There are plenty of tuned and stock roms on this forum, osecuroms.org, openecu.org, etc. It's a good idea to learn both the 16 and 32 bit cars and their differences, anyway.

I think the 08's have the same funky timing rules as the 07's. Check this one out in particular:

Thanks. The reason why I wanted an OTS AP map is simply trust. Cobb stands to lose money if they distributed a risky map. If I were to just pull a custom tuned map from the forum (which I'm new to, and have no idea who to trust) I then have no idea how safe that map is, and therefore no idea whether similar adjustments I make are also safe. I don't have all the necessary tools to custom tune (wideband o2 sensor, etc.) so I figure an OTS AP map is the safest place to start.

After doing some playing around with both RomRaider and ECU Flash it appears that this is irrelevant for the time being anyway. There doesn't seem to be any definitions for the '08 so I can't look at the maps. I suppose it's a possibility to use the street tuner software on another car (with the AP) and try to view the maps that way. Then make similar adjustments to my map. But again... need '08 definitions before I can do that.

Thanks again.

What you want to do is stealing. We do not allow commercial ROMs to be posted nor the discussion of pirating commercial maps in any form or fashion, whether that is copying the commercial ROM that you didn't pay for, for use on your own car or even the copying of all or a portion of a commercial tune you didn't pay for over to a factory map. If you feel you must have a Cobb map, then buy an Accessport.
