Why are all the base maps on here 91 or 93 octane? Where is the 98 octane maps, after all that is what our cars were designed for!

Our cars aren't designed for 98 octane. Most of us are in the United States.

Some JDM cars are designed 98 RON which is different.

I believe in the US, we use the average of RON and MON. I think 98 RON is close to either 93 or 94 (R+M)/2.

It's like mickeyd2005 said. I'm going to venture a guess that most all of RomRaider.com's active users hail from regions that offer 91-93 octane as "premium".

UK 98 Ron fuel equates to 93 Octane in the US.

Base maps provided by users on here are just that... 'Base' Maps. You need to develop them and tune them to your set up.

is it dangerous to tune without a wideband O2 sensor? Will the stock O2 sensor as read through the ECU not give a good enough accuracy?

The factory ECU is pre-turbo. The backpressure that builds when you're boosting throws the readings off and it is inaccurate and not useable for tuning beyond 0 psi. I *STRONGLY* recommend buying a wideband if you are interested in tuning your car. An LC-1 is only $200 and this is a BASIC tool you should own. I even recommend an LC-1 and gauge to people who just own modded cars but don't tune. It's a good troubleshooting and safety tool like oil temp, fuel pressure, etc.

92-93 US (RON+MON/2) should be close to 98 (RON) because RON is way higher than MON. US uses the average of the two, which is probably more truthful. EU only uses the "research" number. You can hit up google if you're more curious about this MON and RON stuff.

There are still different emissions standards and gasoline will vary. Even in the US there are seasonal variances.

My WRX (My05) has two O2 Sensors... one in the headers and one after the turbo in the dump pipe... would this still be inaccurate?

That one further back is a narrow band O2, used mainly for detecting when the cats have gone bad. It won't be accurate either.

Get the wideband. Its cheap and it might just save your motor from you (give you the data to see where you might be going wrong)

you do say it's cheap, but all i really want to do is fix my overboost caused by my TBE...

That sounds exactly like how it started for me. "I just want to fix this issue that was caused by x." Pretty soon there will hardly anything left of the original car.

That said, you won't need it to fix a boost issue. But its something you should factor into the cost of upgrading your fuel system. Sooner is better than later.

So adjusting my wastegate duty cycle and target boost tables won't require me to have a WO2?
