As soon as I moved the files from the RR directory to the java directory is when it worked, not sure why I had to do this as you say but did the trick.

I am able to open a full rom and view the tables! Its takes around 1min to open the rom.

As for logging....

Today I connected it up in the car to be met with a few problems... One being my screen res is wrong (680x416 - 416?!) so need to adjust that.

If I used the shortcuts it kept telling me that the logger defs were not configured (file permissions?).

However if launched from Terminal it reads the defs fine, however it was VERY laggy but it did read the data from the car and would log!

Now I know the PI is overclockable and people see a claimed increase of 50% in cpu and memory functions by taking it from 700mhz to 1ghz (safe too!) I just need to sort out the bugs above before I try and OC it to make sure its stable, no point in adding more bugs!

That's excellent progress!

That screen resolution is going to be a bit of a nuisance.

What hardware are you using for this?

I'm using a Sony XAV63 Image

The screen res is a problem with me Raspberry PI just need to find where I alter it. I will do some more work on this tomorrow.

A friend of mine has told me there is a new product out like the Raspberry PI that got a 2ghz cpu and 512mb ram and comes with a 6" screen he's forgotten the name of it. I'm sure he said it supports full Linux aswell.

This sounds very interessting:
also running RomRaider Logger on your radio...

If it works, I can imagine using RomRaider as gauge for boost pressure, watertemp etc.
Of cause we need a grafik function for gauge on RomRaider too, but no neet to an analog boost gauge ... :D :D

Hmmm, so we've gotten RR to work on an ARM based processor and on linux. Those with programming minds, how far would you say this is from working on the piece of ARM and vaguely linux based magic in my pocket?

Any progress on this ?

Does the Raspberry work as a RomRaider Logger ?
If yes, is there a "how-to" about his ?

Just one question:
how to connect the Raspberry to the Radio?
Is it via video in ?

In this case, the normal radio function will not work, when I use the video function for displaying RomRaider on it.
Or am I work with this ?

BR Jochen

Fixed - the file was in the wrong place... followed by not an ARM version... logger now shows /dev/ttyUSB0 - Fingers crossed this is the correct USB port as its a little dark outside now to go playing (00:18)

Just for reference for others:

rxtx file for arm (must be renamed to librxtxSerial.so). https://blogs.oracle.com/jtc/entry/serial_port_communication_for_java

Placed in java/jdk<version>/jre/lib/ext

RXTXcomm.jar from the RR directory in

java/jdk<version>/jre/lib/ext

Java version: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7u9-downloads-1859576.html

Linux ARM 65.04 MB jdk-7u6-linux-arm-sfp.tar.gz

Raspberry PI version: Soft-float Debian “wheezy”

*** This needs tidying up ***

Most of this still stands apart from an update Java version.

Launcing from the "start menu" shortcut has a problem accessing the def files, say they do not exist even tho you just selected them - Work around for this is to launch from terminal " java -jar RomRaider.jar -logger "

Also disabled all romraider plugins and overclocked the pi to 920mhz which has reduced the desktop lag to nearly nothing. Need 2 test it out in the car, I will grab a video of this as well.

That seems to run well.
Do yourself a favour and launch the Logger with a shell script. This is what is provided for Linux systems as part of the distribution (all one line).
Code:
java -Djava.library.path=lib/linux -Dawt.useSystemAAFontSettings=lcd -Dswing.aatext=true -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false -XX:-UseParallelGC -XX:CompileThreshold=10000 -jar RomRaider.jar -logger

-Djava.library.path=lib/linux this is the part that tells Java where to find your libraries which you didn't type and is most likely the reason you had to put the rxtx files in the Java directory.
And if you don't have any External sensors you can remove all the entries from the plugins directory (if you didn't do that yet) to save some time and memory.
