I happened to come across a company with a whole stash of these rugged, military type tablets, and I can get my hands on them for a great price considering what they go for on ebay... Here are the specs and if it'll work as a dedicated tuning tablet, anybody have interest in getting one or think I won't have an issue unloading them at about $100 each? I don't want to get stuck with a whole pile of 20 of them or more at $80 my cost, that'd hurt like being bent over . .

Atom Rugged Tablets featuring: 1.60GHz, 1GB MEMORY, 8-1/2" TOUCH SCREEN, STYLUS PEN, BLUETOOTH, WIFI, 10/100 ETHERNET PORT, USB PORT, AUDIO PORTS, WINDOWS XP EMBEDDED & AC POWER SUPPLY / CHARGER!
THESE HAVE SERIOUS RUBBER ENDS FOR RUGGEDNESS WHEN DROPPED.
THESE WERE USED FOR MILITARY SURVEY AND DO SHOW SOME SMALL WEAR ON THEM!
COMPLETELY RESET AND WIPED, ALL TESTED IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER! These have a 2GB Apacer Flash Memory P/N: 8D.4E026.8254B, T/N: T2BJ00, M/N: AP-FM002GE15D5S-NJJ,
Local Disk C: 1.88GB NTFS, Local Disc D: 7.84MB FAT, Ram Disk: 27.9MB FAT

I know this is a little old now, but those specs seem rather weak. Older Atom CPUs, like the one in my netbook are essentially worthless. Will Windows XP Embedded run everything necessary? I wouldn't touch XP today, especially on a tablet. Less than 2 GB storage?

I just ordered a Windows 8.1 tablet for $120 from Microcenter. Quad core atom processor, 2GB RAM, 35GB mmc w/ microSD slot. Win 8 is great for a tablet gets free upgrade to Win 10. http://www.microcenter.com/product/4374 ... et_-_Black

I'll report back how it works. I believe there is a member on here that already uses one.

Depends on what the use is. I use an old atom acer aspire to do all my tuning.

For logging you don't need much. The memory footprint is not that big.
My netbook with Atom N270 running XP and Java works well.
People have even used the Raspberry Pi to log.

True. You only need a micro SD card to log. I find myself wanting to tune while logging and get frustrated by the netbook. It will run romraider and ecuflash slowly, but large spreadsheets with formulas kill it and the low resolution prevents running some utilities.

My dedicated tuning PC is a little Acer Aspire One with Windows XP on it. Works like a charm. I paid around $150 for it brand new.

XP probably would have run better than Win7 Starter on my AspireOne, but I didn't want to run an unsupported OS. I got $75 on CL for the 4 year old netbook, so I broke even after selling the Office 365 license that came with the tablet.
