I understand some of the hardware Subaru shipped is not able to be tuned at all. But a quick search shows that it's possible to get these cars tuned through Delicious tuning, using ECUTek software. They claim certain ECUs from 1999-2002 2.5RS, 2000-2002 Legacy and Outback, and 1999-2002 Foresters. I'm particularly interested in getting a 2002 Outback tuned. I have an FTDI VagCom cable that connects to the ECU using FreeSSM, and should allow me to read/write if I have the correct definitions as this cable has been shown to work on supported vehicles through RomRaider. The information on this what cars can be tuned and what ECUs are able to be tuned is located here https://www.delicioustuning.com/node/57.

If anyone knows more, please let me know. I'm not certain of the manufacturer of my ECU at the moment but I'll check when it's not pouring down rain.

Thank you all for your help!

It says you need to send the ecu to them to be reflashed, so it may not be writable over the obd2 port. I think the FreeSSM only allows a few changes but they are all reset if the ecu looses power or is cleared, so it's not really flashing the ecu. I am guessing the ecu may need to be opened up and the rom chip hardwired to a flashing tool or a special interface cable connected to the ecu. That's how some people have reflashed newer bricked ecus that no longer responds to obd2 programming. Or it's will only be supported from ecutek.

The easiest thing might be if you want major changes to pickup an 02-04 wrx ecu and harness, you can get them for $200 on ebay or the sales groups, then wire it in with the correct sensors and tune it with romraider.
