Why do you need to save an unmodified ROM?
It is safe to revert the bytes to FF if desired.

I saved an unmodified ROM just to verify that there is no funky business happening. Being cautious, don't wantu trash my ECU.
After taking a closer look at the hex and the source I figured out that it's the "checksum fix" that happens to be the date/version of the file saved.
