hey guys, i have a 2003 uk sti and priced up getting open source software on my ecu. the guy charges around £450 with dual maps, maff less, anti lag, launch control, flat foot shift etc, i read some stuff online that lead me to here and i have been having a read through and very interested in hearing about people who have mapped there own impreza and how safe its running etc,
i assume i will need the map software, a cable to run to laptop and also a wideband o2 sensor, a knock sensor? i have done flash tuning quite a lot of times but never written my own map etc, i take it i would start of with a base map an then tweak it? car is running 350 bhp just now and on standard injectors and vf35
i have a ecutek map just now, i assume i would need to start a fresh map on the new ecu software and not be able to copy the ecutek map and have the features of twin maps etc

Hey James.

You will lose the Ecutek map when you flash\overwite your ecu with a base eom Map, 16 bit Os tunes do have map switching capability though.

You might have some trouble reading your ecu with ecutek'd tune . (viewtopic.php?f=15&t=9479&hilit=ecutek+flash)

I have heard that removing the ecutek from 16bit ecu can be tricky.

You can get all the features you had with ecutek with carberry rom. It is a base map that can be loaded on your ecu. You will find it under the base map section

This is perhaps a noob question, but couldn't find anything when searching.

I am considering going Carberry on a 2005 UK STi with an Ecutek license/tune on it: A4RN300G-EX, 192 kb.

I have not tested anything yet more than read the Ecutek rom that is on there, it's an ok tune but going SD would make life easier.

So now I wonder, will it work to just flash the Carberry 4.2 rom to this ecu or will the Ecutek mess with me?

I'm not sure how the ecutek tunes work as far as being locked and whatnot, but I think if you can read the rom and pull it you can probably also overwrite it. If this is the case I would save it (keep it to yourself) and then try carberry if you wanted, having the ecutek tune as a backup in case you found yourself frustrated trying to do speed density yourself.

Otherwise if it is locked you'll need to get someone who can unlock it for you. I don't know how that works though.

I can edit the Ecutek rom and flash it, what I'm worried about is if there are maps and other parameters that have been changed with the Ecutek that could mess with a potential Carberry tune. Maybe it's all in my head and I should just go ahead and flash the Carberry.

I'm helping out a friend and it's his car. It's been modified with injectors (ID1000), big maf, big turbo and he wants E85... so it just feels like a lot easier going SD and skipping tuning that big maf.

Have done it already. No issues flashing CarBerry over EcuTek in various cars for owners
