Hey guys, I was wondering if you could help me. I'm looking for a cheap OBDII to DB9 serial cable to use for logging (NOT flashing) with my carpc. 2 reasons why I want to do this:

1. I'd like to leave the Dashboard on 24/7 but don't want to use my tactrix 1.3 as I'm afraid it will deteriorate over time from the heat.
2. When I resume from hibernate Romraider can't reconnect to the ECU without me pressing the "reconnect" button. I suspect this has something to do with USB as I've had the same problem with other devices. The problem went away though when I got rid of the serial to usb adapter and plugged the serial cable straight into the computer. This is what makes me think a OBDII to serial cable would work.

I know some people have had luck with the VAG-COM cables on 16-bit ECUs (I'm running an 03 JDM STI ecu), so I looked to see if they made a serial version and I found these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-KKL-409-1-D ... 494wt_1185
http://www.ebay.com/itm/KKL-409-1-Diagn ... 872wt_1185

I know no one will be able tell me if they'll work for sure but all I'm asking is if, in your opinion, they will work IN THEORY. There is a bunch of specs/info I don't understand in the listings, and I figured some of you would. Either one only costs $10 so it's not a huge loss if I pick one up and it doesn't work, but I would like some input before I pull the trigger. Thanks!

True serial k-line cable WORKS under RomRaider and ecuExplorer.

Do the cables in the links I posted, in your opinion, count as "true serial k-line" cables? Basically I'm trying to figure out if you're saying they will or will not work.

The second one is applicable.

What portion of the text in the listings indicate that the second one will work, but not the first? Just wondering because the second one is no longer being sold... however a few more have popped up:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-409-1-KKL-V ... 2715wt_952
http://www.ebay.com/itm/409-1-KKL-VAG-C ... 010wt_1100
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Serial-interfac ... 4806wt_905

Just want to know if I can check for myself if they'll work rather than ask you.

Also, will the same modifications have to be done to these cables as the USB versions?

If it states dual K line and L line (KK-L) I don't see why it won't work for logging. The only protocol need for logging is ISO9141 on K-Line.
