I'm not sure if this is even worth posting, but could save maybe 5 seconds of someone's day. More like, it could take the thinking out of someone's day lol.
This spreadsheet is a quick way to determine the ethanol content (percentage) of any fuel. You will need to purchase a graduated cylinder with a cap or a lid (I found a 5 pack on
Amazon for $3).
Basically, you fill the graduated cylinder to a volume that leaves 5-10% volume left for water (so, fill a 50mL cylinder to 40 or 45mL of fuel). Fill to the bottom of the meniscus!
Then, input the volume (in mL) of the fuel that you poured into the cylinder. After that, fill the remaining space with water, and indicate how much water you put in (usually around 10mL for a 50 or 100mL cylinder).
Then, shake it all up, and wait for the fuel to separate. I read on ID's website that potentially it could take fuel overnight to fully separate, but I have not measured any recently as it's been several years since I owned a car tuned for E85.
At any rate, once the fuel and ethanol/water mixture fully separate, input the total volume of ethanol/water mixture in the rightmost cell of the sheet. It will then spit out your ethanol percentage. It also "grades" it (red, yellow, green) compared to the maximum pump ethanol content of 83%.
And that's it. The sheet will also tell you if you have an impossibly high or low ethanol content (less than 0%, or greater than 100%, which means an error in the values you were putting into it LOL).
