All the EEPROM dumps I have seen have a VIN.

Maybe earlier ECU ROMs don’t write the VIN to the EEPROM. I’d have to dig through the ROM code to check.

Or maybe a former owner wiped the VIN.

Hopefully the copy / paste works.

Out of interest, why are you swapping the ECU to fix an o2 issue?

IT WORKED! I can't believe it, just wrote the EEPROM data in using the flash command and the car started right up with the new ecu! Far out mate thankyou so much, this has been such a learning experience and I'm so grateful for all your help, and glad to confirm that it works for the SH7055!

The story is, for the past 12 months I've been building a turbo ez30 running on the stock ecu, and when we finally got to the tuning stage a few months ago I had all sorts of heater circuit issues with the ECU. Investigated into the ECU and the mosfet for the RH O2 sensor was buggered, testing in and out of circuit. Found a rouge solution to lock the heater circuits on all the time but then there was further issues relating to the RH O2 sensor not reading properly after that, I think desoldering ruined a few contacts and tracks. Had a friend with an identical ECU spare as mine and this is what lead me to the EEPROM cloning!
New ECU has fixed the heater circuit issue and hopefully I can finally get into closed loop and get some boost in the thing!

Excellent! No worries mate. Glad it was useful. And there is now a working SH7055 (350nm) SCI4 EEPROM kernel too.

One of my current projects is reverse engineering a BIU. Now that you're a pro at doing serial comms with a Suby, you might find it interesting and/or useful. Info is here: https://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=20092 and here: https://www.subaruoutback.org/threads/immobilizer-reverse-engineering-2005-obxt-probably-other-year-models.501753/page-8. Let me know if you want to help out.

Yeah definitely interested, can only imagine how a better understanding of the BIU and how to modify it would help with drivetrain swaps for example. I have another project involving an EZ36 and EZ36 ECU which relies heavily on the BIU and Auto modules etc. which I'm trying to get around which relates back to this. Very keen and happy to help out where I can and test things, just let me know!

Would it work on Forester XT 2007, which is using subaruCAN

nisprog is K-line only

FastECU is K-line or CAN. So, it will work with FastECU provided FastECU has the code to drive the kernel's EEPROM commands. MiikaS did have plans to implement this, not sure where it got to...

Worked on my ADM 04 liberty GT with the 7055 350nm kernel and a cheap CH340-based vag com cable. Amazing work! I was able to dump my eeprom and flash it into a spare ECU that I scored cheap on ebay, and it started right up. Nice to have a backup in case I brick my ECU.

I was also able to flash my ECU ROM with this kernel and the vag com

I played with FastECU too - it can dump eeproms but not write. It also read my ECU ROM fine but haven't tried flashing yet - command line is fine for me.
