The only reason that I am interested is that it may be a useful table to use for better highway economy.
This would help prevent too much throttle in 5th (or 6th) gear. Then we could aggressively tune the lower gears and not worry about the higher gears.

Ok, I think I've found it. It will also impact 1st gear exactly the same as 2nd. If you can get some first gear WOT logs from him, this will confirm this. I'll go through the routine tomorrow to see exactly how this alternate table is being used, but the values from this table match up nicely with the 2nd gear log. The 08 STi has this logic effectively disabled from the factory.

Ok, done -> The per gear table is 3D RPM v. gear. There are two of these tables, one for sport and sport sharp SI-drive modes. The intelligent SI-drive mode does not use a per gear table, but a 2D RPM table, but has the same function. The target from these tables are used as req. torque but maxed at the normal, corresponding "Requested Torque (Accelerator Pedal)" target. That is, if the per gear (or RPM related) req. torque is less than the normal req. torque value, then it will be the final req. torque value. Most ROMs that I looked at (like the 08 STi) have this logic effectively disabled by setting the per gear (and RPM) req. torque values at an arbitrarily extreme value. This means that the normal req. torque value is always used and these tables have no effect. The 08 WRX is different in that the per gear table is populated with values that would have an effect (in 1st and 2nd gear to the 3600 RPM column). The other per gear and RPM table have no effect on the 08 WRX as it does not have SI-drive (and, therefore, only one Req. Torque map is used also).
I checked the USDM 09 WRX, 08 STi, 09 FXT and they do not have anything but the arbitrary extreme values for per gear. And it appears, from what I checked, that they are only present anyway in 08 and later model years. I'll go ahead and plan to add these tables to the next ECU definitions update for all applicable ROMs.

I noticed this per gear max requested torque table was left out of the latest defs. Unless I am missing something. Is it going to be added? I think it can help with the 08's WOT situation. It also may offer some other fun tuning applications.

I was going to add it, but needed to do further analysis when I got into it for other models. Due to the definition release getting pushed back, I decided to drop it.

Bump - I'm quite interested in seeing these, as I'm also getting some unexplained timing variations on a South Africa spec 08 STI (AZ1G201G).
