You should not switch strategies on the fly under slow TPS rate. Blending is more applicable from drivability point of view.
Under cracked throttle you are free to switch strategies. This does no harm.
Alternatively you may calculate fuel corretions for all strategies simulteniuosly in order the switch fueling strategies smoothly.

The mode switches are stored in ROM so a reflash is required to change modes for now.
The idea is: start with MAF only, and tune the SD VE table, then switch to pure SD.
If there are problems with pure SD, switch to blending and begin to tune the AlphaN table with zero blending, once it's dialed in, add the blending. Same for adding MAF blending.
Under SD/Blend + Blending mode, it calculates and logs all fueling methods and blends them using two 3d tables (RPM/TPS).

Looks like SD VE table of a MAF equiped NA EJ253 engine. Attachment: SD VE table USDM 25RS.GIF

Interesting. I take it you dug that out of my ROM somehow? Is there anything useful I can do with it?

It's yours.
Look at the most right colomn. This should stop you trying to rise current CR if sport grade gas is not available.
But. Your DBW setup gives you a chance to use low octane gasoline with part throttle.

OK, if the column headings are intake are pressure (absolute?), then the right side of the chart is WOT, correct?
Why does a VE in the 70s and 80s in that column indicate that increased compression is a dangerous thing?

Ignition is knock limited at this engine loads. About 15-20 degree ignition retard against MBT is needed with 82 MON (=87 (MON+RON)/2) under WOT and CR=10 at miiddle to high RPM. This cause extreme EGT and preignition in a couple of minutes.
Throttled engine will permit to use low grade gasoline under applicable mixture enrichment for internal cooling.
