There was ADM and SADM versions, not sure about JDM, JDM had the tS version.

Been doing some digging in the Hitachi M32R 5EAT TCU to figure out how the TCU uses Calculated Engine Torque (CET). The following should also apply to Denso SH705x ROMs.

CET is sent from the ECU via bytes 3 & 4 of CAN ID 0x412. The TCU calculates slip via the ratio between Turbine Speed and Engine Speed. A factor is looked up from a table based on the slip. For high slip (~0.5) the factor is ~1.4. For low slip, the factor is ~1.0. The CET is multiplied by this factor. Factored CET is then smoothed and further factored by a lookup based on ATF Temp. The twice factored and smoothed CET is then used to lookup a Line Pressure target. The Line Pressure solenoid is then controlled to achieve this target Line Pressure.

So, it seems that artificially increasing CET will increase the line pressure target and cause faster movement of the various clutches. Is that consistent with what is observed?

CAN ID 0x412 also matches to what I have logged from ECUs.

I confirm that increasing CET affects gear upshifts on 4AT/5AT. As for me, they become a little bit faster and smoother.

On CVT TR690 inreasing CET reduces bump during lockup switch-off but also increases engine revs in the certain conditions. I think that increasing CET on CVT also affects gear ratio, that's why revs are slightly higher. I did not log, just guessing.

By the way, TCU ROM should include a multiplier that corresponds transmission's gear ratio to calculate vehicle speed correctly.

Here is the error I get when I try to read my 2009 Forester XT 4AT

@curt4576 - it is failing at the seed / key step. You are using the Hitachi method. Do you know whether your TCU is Hitachi or Denso? You could try using the Denso method (the third of the TCU read options)

I think it's a Denso TCU. It is a cobb tuned ECU as well.
What settings should I use to attempt to pull the TCU ROM?

The ECU type shouldn’t matter.

For a Denso TCU… in FastECU press ‘select’, scroll down to ‘Unknown’ and choose it. Then select the third in the list of TCU protocols - the Denso one.

It doesn’t like the 5EAT kernel load address in RAM. Must be different for a 4EAT. Are you sure it’s a SH7058? And not something like a SH7055?

We might find load address by trial and error (try FastECU v0.15 - it tests different load addresses), but ideally we need to know the chip type for the kernel.
