Thanks for the reply!

My DLP-USB232M-G also uses the ft232bm chip, and I've got a ne555n as well. I also switched to a nice power supply that gives a quality 12V.

I picked up some LEDs to monitor the USB tx/rx, and found something suspicious. The data sheet lists a +5V constant with a low signal for tx/rx on each line. I wired up the LEDs properly, but only the RXLED output is working. The TXLED output is strange. It appears to be sitting at some positive voltage, but even a slight draw pushes it to zero. When probing it with the scope, I can catch a 'tail' of the voltage dropping down to zero.

So, given a good ecu, good psu, proper wiring, etc. looks like I need a new FTDI module.

To be sure, I also checked the USB, and it is holding steady during all of this so it really looks like a bad FTDI module.

I'll donate money to help persuade/motivate you to move forward with the ECU recovery. I REALLY need a dumbed down howto document with maybe a sprinkle of basic electronics theory as its been a looong time since I played with a bread board. Glad to see that you might have pinpointed your issues to a faulty FTDI chip!

It looks like faulty FTDI is not a primary reason. The ECU processor chip is not powered properly. That may cause FTDI being overloaded and probably broken.

In order to prevent the next chip to be broken I may recommend to put resistors of about 1 kOm bitween ECU_RX- FTDI_TX and ECU_TX-FTDI_RX.

Yep, I was just testing the actual cpu pins, only getting ~3v at the Vcc, and no readings from the mode pins or portVcc pins.

Still trying to figure out a way to track down the voltage stabilizer. Next step will be plugging into the car and checking the pins to rule out my power supply or wiring.

maybe i`m use wrong power pin for my Ecu? i find power pin in Subaru technikal documentation (like 2003-2004 Subaru Forester Service manual - Engine (H4DOTC) - Engine Diagnostics - MSA5T0722A162086 ECM IO signal.pdf)

maybe my Ecu dosnt go into boot mode, i connect to GND point number P413

thanks
