Posted this on the FastECU help forum but maybe someone here could help too.

I have the Denso 7058 CAN TCU and have been able to pull the rom and start defining tables, only main issue is that it'll flash. It'll go right up to reading the flashblocks but once it starts flashing, it just gives a "TCU operation failed"

Hi, I couldn't find your post on the FastECU forums. Can you post up the full text of the FastECU logfile?

Ideally @MiikaS chimes in to help out.

Looks like my post wasn't approved yet.

The best i could get was a camera shot of the console log if that's fine, nothing useful showed up in the logs within the syslogs.

I would like to contribute to this project. I have an 05 OBXT with the transgo shiftkit. What type of tests or experiment would be useful to the group?

Although not fully relevant to the tuning, I have both front/rear lsd installed from a 2005 sti on my 5eat and the center diff has been modified to be permanent rear wheel drive with the clutches now engaging the front wheels, so similar to MPT but flipped 180 degrees.

Any further info / build log on how you did the RWD mods? Hows it holding up? Would like a bit more RWD fun out of my Outback, not sure how the rear diff and shafts would hold up tho.

The VTD style center diff is basically an open differential with a clutch pack to increase lock. Unlike the MPT it is truly able to have the front wheels stopped and the rear wheels spin or vice versa.

The "gearbox" output shaft and shaft that connects to the driveshaft are normally two pieces inline with each other. These were carefully welded together so it's permanently driving the rear. The planetary gears were removed but the clutch remains. When the solenoid for center differential is electrically disconnected the front wheels are free spinning. When external power is applied it will lock the center differential, and otherwise the TCu still watches wheel speed and can act as awd.

The first image shows unmodified parts on top and the two shafts welded together below. The second image shows the shaft installed into the clutch section with the planet gears removed

Originally mine came wirh the "VA2 type" rear differential that people incorrectly call a one bolt r160, it's even weaker than an r160! Before it had a chance to fail I swapped in an r180 with aftermarket "Spec B" style axles that are only $140 online. The exact rear to front Ring/pinion ratios are (39:11)/(43:12)=0.9894 so only 1% different in speed and it's been great for many miles.

Aah awesome! Thanks for this info! Time to go find an R180 methinks

Trying to recover one of these Denso units

Here are pictures of both sides of the pcb,

https://imgur.com/a/JjJHEBw

I have found what i think are the correct pins on the data sheet - the pin names are taken from the tactrix/ecu flash shbootmode recovery pdf, but I do not think ECUflash will do the recovery as it will not even open the TCM rom.

Planning to make a interface using a usb-ttl tool, just awaiting the bits to arrive and then using the renasis programming tool from the chip manufacturer

Pin list i have worked out so far is
PD8 - Pin 1
FWE - Pin 56
MD1 - Pin 55
PB15 - Pin 164
TxD1 - Pin 165
RxD1 - Pin 166

Doing some testing back to the programming pads these are what I have found,

Edit with new pinouts

Found pinouts that remove the 1k ohm resistance from the first testing and now all circuit pinout measurements correspond with tactrix shbootrecover diagram

P441 – MD1 – PIN 55 of MCU (100 OHMS)
P431 – FWE – PIN 56 of MCU (100 OHMS)
P431 – PD8 – PIN 1 of MCU (1K OHM)
P813 – PB15 – PIN 164 of MCU (0 OHM)
P808 – RxD1 – PIN 166 of MCU (0 OHM)
P439 – TxD1 – PIN 165 of MCU (1K OHM)

How was it bricked?

It is possible the bootloader is not corrupted and you will be able to reflash with FastECU (ie: might be no need for SH boot mode).

Ah, I caught up with the latest on FastECU forums.

One option might be to find a local WRX or Subaru club and find someone with the same car/tranny combo. Then ask them kindly if you can dump their TCU code. That was how another chap restored his TCU when it got accidentally bricked by the denso_can method.

Ive got the ROM from a 2011 sti with a tg5 gearbox that was listed earlier in this post so I am going to use that to hopefully get it alive again.

We are a pretty small town and I only know of one other wrx about the same year but is not an sti.

We do have a Subaru dealer but they are extremely unhelpful and judging by my conversation with them i dont think they even know how to properly flash factory firmware, i asked about possibly getting the correct pak file and they were completely perplexed

It did brick while trying to write an ECU that had been locked with ecutek back to a stock file so in future is doing any subarus with an AT i will be bench flashing the ecu to prevent issues hahaha

Bits to make the interface will hopefully arrive tomorrow so I will report back if I have sucess

Are you sure these numbers are correct? Maybe post a pic?

Quote:
31711 AN 65 0

30919 AB 600

112400 - 8280

The first and second numbers look like 10 digit subaru part numbers, but they don't come up in any part search.

Another way to get your TCU part number would be to put your VIN number in partsouq.com, look through the part diagrams for your car and locate your TCU part number.

Hmmm, weird. Can't find any reference to those part numbers anywhere. What number does partsouq give you for your VIN?
