Cool, thanks Michael, I spoke to my friend who is letting me use Ida under his licence.( He writes and sells software for CNC machining, very smart man)

He said he is happy with the 6.1 version and to buy my own if I want the later version.... :(

Oh well I am saving for a couple of other things so it goes on the list, will persist with 6.1 for now, almost $1200AU to buy 6.4....

I think 6.1.0110409 is a pirate version.

I would not know, my friend has been writing software for years and is decent person, I have no reason to believe he would bother with pirated software.

Real simple answer. Just make a dummy IDA file with nothing special in it and send it to me. hackish@gmail.com. Since my copy is legit it will not allow me to open a pirated database. In fact the pirated databases self-corrupt after a while so basically you're screwed.

Cool well I have already sent files to dschultz, perhaps he can tell you ?

My files have been opened countless times over the last year and half with no problems....

My friend has agreed to renew the support if I pay for it :D It will take some weeks to save the money at the rate these winter heating bills come in though.

Why do you say I am screwed ?

Obviously you think I have a pirated version, well I know it is not and I am a little insulted that you insist......

If you are using a pirated version it will have a significant impact on your work. That's all.

As far as the info I've received, the version number you list was intentionally leaked out to screw pirates over. Not only does it contact the hex-rays server, but it also randomly corrupts your work. The only reason I got this info is that I hired a contractor to do some work and none of his files would load. We compared the two side by side and found his disassembly was different. When I asked the hexrays guys they said the contractor had a pirate version and basically all the databases he had opened would be corrupted and unuseable.

I don't work for hex-rays so it doesn't affect my bottom line. It just sucks on your part if you're using pirated products that will screw you over in the long run.
