Hey all,
Man, it's been years and years since I've read some of these pages, glad to see you are all still around.
I am working on an....interesting project for my 17 WRX. I'll be fitting a 7-10" display driven by an HP Chromebox based on a Core i5. I've unlocked the bootloader and it is currently running Ubuntu. I'm at the point where I'm starting designing the back-end module for car-specific communications. Originally, my plan was to use the standard EOBD features, but then I remembered SSM.
After hours of research, I've compiled a very lackluster list of resources. I understand the basic packet format and how the protocol works. My reasoning behind wanting to work with SSM is to be able to get ahold of some of the SSM specific tweaks that can be done (lock/unlock delay, headlight timeout, etc), diagnostic actions (cycle abs, actuate certain components), etc.. The bigger dilemma is that my MY supports SSM4... Found even less regarding that.
The question here is: Does anyone have ANY worthwhile information on some of the following abilities: - Using SSM with other J2534/9141/etc type devices other than the VSTi - Any existing libraries that implement the SSM protocol (python, lua, Java preferred)? - Should I abandon the idea of getting SSM running and simply go EOBD or tap into medium speed CAN using a custom board and reverse engineer?
Any input is greatly appreciated! I have the technical knowledge to get this done, but looking for a shortcut on information and understanding.
