i.e. devoid of other body computers, immobilizers, dashes, etc.

I've got a EZ36D I'm going to swap into my GC impreza, and would prefer to run the factory ECU if possible. I'm a software developer, but haven't messed with assembly code since college.

I enjoy software more than wiring, and so I'm willing to put in some work to accomplish this. Given my complete lack of experience in hack other people's assembly, I'm also willing to pay someone else to do it for me. There appears to be some demand for a hack such as this on NASIOC, and so I was thinking of starting a fund over on http://bountysource.com.

So, how feasible is this? I'd think it would be as simple as skipping over blocks of initialization, which could be identified as start subroutines which access the CAN bus. However if it was this simple I'd think someone would have done it already.

There is a device made by Australian company AGT Engineering sold by Subatronics that allows this functionality.

Seems like I'd still need a lot of body computers and such to get it running. I'd rather hack the ROM, but I'm guessing its not possible to re-flash an EZ36D ECU unless the immobilizer is present and working?

Guess I'll look into standalones.
