I'm logging roughness count direct to SD card with Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 with fast CAN on a 2008 3.0 Outback. Does roughness count reset to 0 immediately after the misfire goes away or does the count persist for a while so that the logger gets a chance to read the values?

Example below, screen shot of SQL analysis of the .csv files.

from what i've seen it only increments when there is actual roughness. so you might see a count of 5 at idle then its gone as soon as you touch the throttle or if you have a high RPM missfire you'd see an increment on a pull but then back to zero when you lift off.

Digging through the ECU code and the FSM (see description of DTC P0301), it seems like the following:
- Roughness as reported by SSM is the misfire count associated with the "catalyst damage misfire" test. There are other misfire counts, but this particular test is the source of the variable reported by SSM.
- This is a count of misfires over 400 ignitions (or 200 engine revolutions)
- Therefore, the roughness (as reported by SSM) should reset every 200 engine revolutions

Does that match what you are seeing?

Also misfire due to high EGT (P1301) (if your car supports that).
