I'm trying to help a friend step away from the AccessPORT v.2 and into OS. We are are working with a USDM 2006 Forester 2.5 XT MT. From what I can tell there is seemingly just one xml id defined for this model: A8DH100I. This xml id seems to correspoond with an ECU id of 4212585006. When using any of the open source tools with his car we get an ECU not supported error both with the married A/P map on the ECU as well as unmarried. According to Learning View the ECU id is 4212585106. Just one digit off from the supposed only known ecu id for this year/model/trim/transmission combo. My question is, does Cobb do this or is this truly a unique ecu id from Subaru that is not yet supported? Cobb is supposed to flash the exact map that it pulled off the ECU when you unmarry. Why would they change the ECU id of both thier ROM and when flashing back the stock ROM? Bottom line, am I safe flashing a stock A8DH100I map to his unmarried ROM and then pulling it and modding the ROM from there?

There is rarely one ROM revision per car - usually there are multiple revisions for the identical car (same year, same model, same trim, same market, same tranny). It just happens that only one was submitted by someone and the car you are working on happens to have another revision. The AP ver.2 may put a different ROM revision on there when it is married (it happens to not match the original in this case), but it should put the original back on when you unmarry. That original is the one you want to pull with Ecuflash and submit so it can be added to a future definition release. You can flash the ROM that is already supported as long as the year, model/trim, market, and transmission match exactly the vehicle you want to flash it to.
