I have reflashed the ecu on a Subaru STI MY08 2.5 (EDM), and once it blocked when flashing the ECU at the beginning of flash, now the car does not start and I cannot flash any other map. I have replaced the ECU from a different Subaru same model, but the immobilizer does not let me start the engine.
What can I do?

A dealer can fix the immobilizer issue.
The un-flashable ECU can be SH boot programmed back to stock.

Sorry to revive an old thread, I am currently in this situation STi 2008 AUD - well similar.

I want to run a different ECU to the original - so that I can tune with RR.
Immobilizer issue - I live in the middle of the desert, Paraburdoo to be exact if anyone cares to see how in the desert! :) Also about 1600kms from a dealership.

I find it strange that we can SH Boot into ECU's, Tune them, add more functions but can't get around this....

Is there any way I can utilize this 2nd ECU I have without having to drive/Truck my car 1600kms?

What does the dealer do that we can’t?

Thanks.

There are two ways to revive your engine.

1 - You may reflash stock ROM image into the fail ecu in SHbootmode.
2 - You may resolder 93C56 ( maybe marked as L56R) 8pin chip from the dead ecu onto the new one. This restores your immo.

Hi Sasha,

Thanks for the reply, I was starting to think this would be impossible!

I might look at some way of make the 93C56 interchangable, (IE not soldered) between the 2 ECU's I have. (Really like the idea of have a backup)

Thanks

Ben

Everything is possible.

SHbootmode HowTo is here

Instead of soldering you may copy 93C56 EEPROM chip and write the content into the new ecu provided you have an applicable programmer.

Any TVset repair shop should have such a programmer.

That is exactly what i thought......just bought a programmer, spare 93C56 chips.

Thanks heaps.

Hi,

I know this is an old thread but has anyone has success in reading / writing the 93C56 chip (08+ STI ECU) while still on the ECU board? (IE: without removing the chip?)

I haven't been able to read it on the board as yet (NOTE: ECU is not powered, haven't tried with power)

Happy to remove it but wanted to check if just me or everyone has the same issue

Cheers

This is done by downloading an applicable kernel via Denso CAN primary bootloader.
There are some variants of EEPROM connections

ecu SH7055F\SH7055SF 93C56
ecu SH7058 93C56
ecu SH7058 93C58
ecu SH7058S 93C56
ecu SH7058S 93C58

tcu 93C56
tcu 93C58

Thanks!

However I'm not sure what you mean

At the moment I am just connecting my programmer to the 93C56 chip using a SOIC8 clip and trying to read the 93C56 Immo EEPPOM (IC402) and it just reads blank, I don't get errors but I get no data.

Do you have any more info about the applicable kernel via Denso CAN primary bootloader?

Cheers
