Being still on the quest for perfect boost control, I came across some discussion of flashing "similar" ROMs on different ECUs to obtain different features.
I've found that the EDM 03 WRX ROM (A4TE100G) has Per Gear Wastegate Compensation; which would allow for better boost control than the 2D Initial/Burst/Continuous tables I have at the moment on my ADM 01 WRX (A4SE700I).
Basically I plan to check variables & copy/paste my tuned tables to the A4TE100G ROM and flash it on my car. What is the likelihood of this working? I actually accidently flashed my A4SE700I ROM onto an ADM 03 STI without realising; the car started & ran, but threw a cat effeciency CEL (can't remember which one).
In relation to this, for my future engine build I plan to run a JDM ECU to drive AVCS (forged 2.5 w/ ADM 05 STI AVCS heads). Of the most readily available ECU's (likely it will be AF481 or AH581), which will accept a JDM ROM with Per Gear Wastegate Compensation?

So, whilst steadily s*** my pants and giving myself a coronary, I turned the key and pressed the button. All signs positive.
Disconnect greens and set to ON. Fuel pump primes. Good sign so far. Check CELs. None. Turn her over, and she starts and idles no problem! 15 seconds later CEL comes on. Turn her off. Check CEL.
P0558 - Alternator Circuit Low.
Cleared it, try again. Same thing happens. Check battery voltage - 14.4v. Seems OK. I read on NASIOC that a member was provided a 2 pin alternator (needed 3 pin) as a replacement, and had the same CEL. Car also charged fine.
Seems to turn off strangely; a little rough, like run on? Any ideas?
I will drive around carefully with this ROM for a while before I start tuning the Per Gear WG Compensation. If all seems fine, I might disable the CEL.

It's very possible that there are different DTC for the different engine accessories of different years utilizing additional I/O pins of the ECU. You need to compare the wiring harness to ECU connection layout to see what you may be missing. Even then the PC board circuitry could be altered over different years.
