Searching for "base timing tables" doesn't work because the words are too common. I've searched around various forums as well and couldn't find the answer.

I'm just looking for an explanation on the when the engine uses which base timing table? I have a 09 WRX and there are four tables with two different settings.

* A and C are the same.
* B and D are the same.

Is this another case of "cruise versus acceleration", similar to the ACVS tables? If so, why four tables?

Thanks for any info.

Most of the ROM's are labelled better than that. However, usually the A and B tables are for when AVCS fails the ignition timing demands of the engine can change due to reduced volumetric efficiency 'in some extreme cases'

C and D are traditionally the ones you would spend the most time tuning :)

C would be Cruise, D would be Non Cruise

Are you certain you have the latest definitions? At some point most of the ABCD timing tables were relabeled to cruise/non cruise and cruise/non cruise avcs related. Not sure if that was done for every rom or not but I noticed that change in mine at some point.
