I've recently purchased an '06 ADM STI which has been exciting in itself, stepping up from the same year WRX. For the most part I have always used the STI image (A8DH200V) with the old car due to it being more defined compared to it's factory image so I am familiar with the differences here, and I understand interchangeability and image revisions being used on different vehicle.

However one thing has me curious. A friend of mine has the exact same STI and we wanted to compare tunes. Now I was able to retrieve the image but was semi-surprised to find that I wasn't able to load it up in ECUFlash or RomRaider. The reason I say "semi" was that the first thing I assumed was it was potentially protected, but strange I was still able to download it in the first place.

I then simply inherited the definitions from the factory ones which worked as I was hoping. All tables appeared and so far are matching what is expected. But interestingly the internal ID that was found is H8DH200V... huh?

...mine again is A8DH200V (WRX being A8DH200O and '07 STI being A8DK200V) So obviously the H is a weird change. All other details match including Market, Model and ECU ID.
I've run it through IDA and for the most part they look identical (obviously his has been tuned so I can't compare factory images directly)

Does anyone know why this might be the case? My thought would be some sort of lock, but seems pretty flimsy to simply create a definition for it as a workaround. I've run it through sharptune and no common mods were found. Car runs fine, I could make changes and flash them back on. There's no concern, that's just how it is. He's an older guy and hasn't had the car tuned since buying it himself, and I thought I'd see if I can find any more info for him.

Thanks, that makes sense seeing as he bought it from a guy down there!
