Take this ROM
Attachment:
5EAT Stock ROM.hex

AJ1J400H

It was possible to upgrade to a later model more fully defined ROM from a similar make/model(2012 5EAT STI Impreza), in this instance checking the first 0x02000 in a Hex Editor to confirm that the ECU's were compatible/identical. AZ1J500J was used without issue :)

It is something to consider for easy software functionality.

It came in handy recently when with some small tweaks, I was able to upgrade to another ECU ROM which had more tuning resolution available. Something to consider for those who are wanting the most from their ROM

Necro....

I have a 2009 ADM WRX MT (AZ1G400W). I have obtained a map from a friend who has been running it on his 2011 ADM WRX MT (AZ1G900C). We have similar mods (read: both running Invidia TBE). Reading the above post, it seems that similar cars and similar ROM images are somewhat compatible.

Am I able to flash his map as it sits, or is copy-pasting the tables in his map the only way to try out the concepts he has used?

Obviously necessary precautions would be taken to avoid grenading my car...

Also, would there be any benefits from tuning my car on the more recent image? There are numerous tables available on his image that aren't available on mine. Would any of these provide me an advantage when tuning my car?

09/10 WRX and MY11/12/13 WRX are one of the few exceptions

Depending on who tuned the MY11, there may be long term fuel trims turned off which you would have difficulty copy/pasting into the MY09/10 tune

So that's a negative on simply flashing the ROM? Future plans include merpmod eventually, how do I go about that? AZ1G900C (MY11) is supported whereas my AZ1G400W is not.

And also negative on copy-pasting I take it? I figured this might be the case, there were a few timing and fuelling related tables available on the MY11 that were not on mine, which made me hesitant to go down this path.

You mean is different between MY09/10 and MY11, yeah?

So what sort of options do I have for future Merp-ing, etc?

Yeah, meant that even MY08 is different to MY09/10 which again is different to MY11-13 with MY14(RS40) being the only one compatible with the MY11/13 ECU

Oddly enough, AZ1G101M 08-10 FXT and AZ1G900O 11-13 FXT are compatible

No Merpmod wont work
