I have been trying to flash a ms41.1 ecu and am having issues.

I have used two different flashing tools and both will tell me that they have successfully flashed the hex file, but upon starting the car the changes have not taken effect. I went as far as to create a file with the fueling essentially turned off and flashed it with no changes to the operation of the car.

Any ideas?

What tool you are using? And have you bridged pin 14 to pin 18 in the round diagnostic port?

I am using the Siemens MS41 flash tool. I have also used the flasher that RK uses in his tuning.

I have pins 14/18 bridged as well as 2/17.

I'm guessing you've also read the ecu back to verify your changes were not applied? The flash tool verifies the ecu returns an OK after each packet is sent so there is definitely communication going both ways. Seems like a symptom of pins 14/18 not bridged even though you say they are. Have you tripple checked that it is indeed 14/18 bridged?

I did. I had them bridged with a vampire clamp behind the connector then also added a wire on the top side of the connector. I also verified that i have 12v at pin 60 at the ecu.

Also there is some older ms41 units that can't be flashed. But then at least the ms41 flash tool should complain thst it can't be done. Some tools do "flash" the unit but in reality do nothing.

He stated its an ms41.1 dme. The above only affects some ms41.0 DMEs from euro countries. all ms41.1 were obd2 and are flashable. The ms41.0 model numbers of the ECUs are:
1744598
1427703
1427704

Have you tried just leaving the cap on the 20pin connector with 14/18 bridged and flashing through the obd port? (don't do a full flash this way, just partial)

What cable are you using?

Has a PO done any weird wiring work?

I think I figured it out. I think the file that I was working with was a 41.2 file, not 41.1.

??? That should have at a minimum given you a warning when flashing. And bricked if flashed to a 41.1 full.

Are you using "Save As.." function after editing bin file in RomRaider?

I am. It shows the edit I made if I reopen it, but once I flash the ECU and read the file again it appears nothing changed.

Safe to say you haven't done any research.
This is in a sticky. I suggest you read the rest of the wiki before posting.

I had already done this but you're probably right about the research. Unfortunately there isn't a ton of information about my specific issue that I could from a simple google search.

If the cap is on, the write pins are bridged, and using a proper cable, it should write.
