Hey,
Is there such a thing as EWS "sync" on MS41 like there is on ms43 where you can pair a random ecu with the ews module in your car.
I'm running for a while my car with ews off because I use another ecu than the stock one, and I'd like to activate ews on that ecu too.

Alright, I've checked and it seems to be available for e36 in inpa according to what I found on internet.
I will try this weekend or the next one.
And why would I want ews ? Antitheft proporties, thats what it was made for.

Are we talking about EWS2 or 3? In case of EWS3, very much interest here too! There is an explanation of EWS systems I posted here: http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=11109&start=15Are you really sure you can sync any random MS43 with EWS(3 in that case)?? That would be different from the documentation, as it says it is impossible.

I have no ews sync experience on whatever plateform.
I've heard in the past about that ms43 ews sync. And recently Beak spoke about that on ms41, and that came handy to me as I've wanted to run ews (3 on my car indeed) activated.
As I said I'll report on that if it works or not
Btw thanks for your topic link, I didn't see it when I digged around.
Edit : I have to find out what ews I have (3.2 or 3.3). Is that to read on inpa itself or on the physical module ?

MS41 never had EWS 3.3 (Rolling Code)... only EWS 2 and EWS 3.2 = EWS 3 in EWS 2 Mode. EWS 3.2 can be handle like EWS 2.

I think this is not true. I have an early '98 MS41 and I think I remember it has 3.3. I haven't seen any chance in INPA to make EWS-DME sync. Also the sheet says EWS 3.3 installation started from late '97, depending on model.

MS41 never had EWS 3.3 or 4.3 with rolling code. They will got EWS 2, EWS 3.2 and EWS 3.D but non 3.3 with rolling code. They got EWS 2 and EWS 3.2 and if changed by bmw ews 4.x (case) with ews 3 inside in ews 2 mode but never ever with rolling code. BMW did same in S85 engines ... EWS4 (CAS) in EWS 3.3 Mode ...
You have to search better in inpa ... isnt like same way (model => engine ...) as in MS42, MS43 ... Also you can do it with Tool32 or GT1 ...
MS41 you could sync. MS42,MS43, MS45 you have to virginze or put right isn code inside before could sync.

This is somewhat interesting. So as I understand, MS41+EWS3 is not really EWS3, its EWS2 with EWS3-case? If so, what is your source? Can you define if it works with any EWS module or is there any dependence on HW/SW Version? Lets say, until HW/SW EWS3-case is literally EWS2 and from HW/SW it then is actually EWS3?

I actually managed successfully the make the sync this past weekend. It is pretty straight forward. Take the ecu ISN number in the engine section, then go to body EWS and write in the ecu isn you just red into the ews.

Beyond the sync, does anybody have experiences on coding transponders to EWS? I bought a coding-system and can not recode an existing transponder onto an EWS. I'm almost about to doubt now, they are rewritable, thus can only be coded once. Not much info I could acquire on that so far.
