RomRaider

Was using Romraider on a 1st gen MacBook intel formatted with Windows 7x32 on it. Laptop finally died and I'm trying to get running again on a new laptop.

Cable is Openport 2.0 RevH which I can confirm is good because ECUFlash will read the ECU 10/10 times.

New laptop is a Asus Ryzen 7 running Windows 10.

I tried installing Romraider (0.9.4 with JRE 8-361 and Openport drivers) directly on the laptop. Openport shows properly in device manager, but I also use this laptop for FDRS (Ford module reprogramming) using a Mongoose and Romraider logger keeps trying to connect with the Mongoose (even though it's unplugged) and won't seem to try the open port. I can't figure out how to force romraider to use the open port, and I'm not in a position to uninstall all of the mongoose drivers.

So I moved on to trying to run Romraider inside of a virtual box on the laptop. I used Windows 7x32 SP1 (same disk I imaged the MacBook from). First attempt was latest and greatest (Romraider 0.9.4 with JRE 8-361 and Openport drivers) and ecu_defs 370. Kept getting unable to init ECU.

So I grabbed the hard drive from my MacBook copied over the exact revisions of the software that were working there (files were still in downloads folder, laptop was literally only used for Romraider). I uninstalled Java, Romraider, and Openport, rebooted and then installed Romraider 0.5.9, JRE 6-450, and ECUFlash 144 (to get open port drivers) and ECU defs 346.

Same exact issue, cannot init ECU. The key is on, the engine is running, but Romraider will not connect.

Openport 2.0 does not use a virtual comport, so my COM port list is blank, and if memory serves that is correct.

I've also tried multiple combinations of JRE 5, 6, 8 with Romraider 0.5.9, 0.8.2, 0.9.4 eco defs 346 and 370. Between every iteration I uninstall everything, reboot, reinstall, reboot.

I've got 6 hours into this mess so far and I have no clue why I can't talk to my ECU with Romraider logger. Pretty much every variation I try will read with ECUflash but not logger.

Any ideas?

It's definitely a Java issue. I think if you can figure out how to fully remove an incompatible Java version you would be fine, but I've not figure out how to completely remove Java yet.

Today I spun up a clean VM, went straight to Romraider 0.5.9, jre-8u231-i586, ECUFlash 144 (to get open port drivers), and ECU defs 370 and it connected on the first try.

anytime i've had an issue with java its just been a case of removing it from add/remove programs - then reboot the machine, install correct java and you're good to go.
