I may be overlooking something small but I’m going to attempt to explain. I have 2 different laptops, one running windows 10 and the other 11 pro and I’m getting the same thing. I have Java JDK 8u451. Java 8, 32 bit x86 from the link on romraider. I have the newest versions of ecuflash and romraider. I have the latest ecu defs and logger defs. I have a 2013 sti. I can read the map with ecuflash and save it as a .bin file in ecuflash. I have already went to definition manager in romraider and clicked the extracted file ecu defs.xml which I have local and clicked apply and save and when I try to open the map that I saved from ecuflash it says the definition file not found, an do I want to choose one. So I say yes and I use the ecu_defs.xml and it says the definition doesn’t match and do I want to load it anyway but it doesn’t load if I say yes or no. I can open logger and log just fine but can’t see it in romraider. Does anyone know why?

I also went to romraider and downloaded the 2012 sti supported .hex file and it says the defs aren’t present to open that map either.

some screenshots might help here - it seems like you have an issue with ECUflash defs and romraider defs, you've not got the 2 mixed up by any chance? Romraider can't use ECUflash defs and vice versa.

Post up your rom and I'll check what defs it gets opened with on my computer?

Here is the rom that ecuflash is saying it’s reading from my ecu. It will allow me to make changes and write it back to the ecu but I don’t think it’s working right. Also some extra info I found. It’s not tripping the ecu into test mode before writing the map back to the ecu or when it’s reading it. I refer to the to the diagnostic mode that used to trip the fans on the older cars. I have the benefit of the car is running on my Cobb just fine but when I uninstall it each time I hear the one extra click from the ecu. It’s not doing that with ecu flash if it’s supposed to. It appears my injectors are firing while cranking and the Maf reads normal but the ecu does not know where my throttle body or accelerator pedal position is. There’s no noise from the throttle body at all. The driver is updated on ecuflash. I am using a standard usb cable from an mp3 player or printer or something. The usb cable itself isn’t special is it?

I’ll need to find a way to shrink the file size for my screenshots.

Also the romraider definition file manager should have the location of ecu_defs.xml

I only downloaded ecuflash 1.4.4. I did not add any new definitions for it. Are you referring to the new definitions that can be added to the metadata?

yes if you dont have the updated ECUflash definitions then there's a chance it won't be able to read/write the rom proplery.

Your ROM ID is AE5L500V - you can download the very latest ECUflash defs from TD-D's github:
https://github.com/TD-D/SubaruDefs/tree/Alpha

hit the green "code" button then "download as zip". Take the subaru standard folder from the zip and drop the contents into your "rommetadata" folder in ECUflash.

Once that's done then if you open the rom you should see all the tables and be able to flash changes to the ecu.

You said in the first post that the definitions weren't found in ecuflash now you're saying it's not going into flash mode, so I'm guessing you tried to make a definition for the rom in ECUflash but it's possible you haven't selected the right flash method - updating the ECUflash defs from the github repo should fix that. If there's still no joy then you're going to have to take some screenshots or copy out the text from the ecuflash log window might help give some insights.

I added the newest defs in ecu flash metadata but no luck. I have the screen shots of ecu flash this time. I read the rom and then changed one small thing and tried to write it just to record results. The ecu Not entering flash mode still when using ecuflash.
In the first post I said I was not able to open the file in romraider that I had saved in ecuflash. I have always had the tables to adjust from reading the rom on ecuflash and the ability to write available after making adjustments in ecu flash. I just don’t think it’s working correctly because of not clicking into flash mode.

It was the usb cord. The housing for the input on the tactrix end had become lose and needed the cord to physically be held straight. I can flash a file and start and tune the car just fine but it trips straight into limp mode. It trips into limp before even starting the car after flashing. Any thoughts? I daily drive on the Cobb. No codes. Immediately apon flashing with a map from romraider forum it starts and runs fine but it trips into limp within 3 seconds?
