That's because the engine doesn't go in decel mode and follows base ignition map.

Also if you have read the whole thread you should have noticed that vanos needs to be ON for best exhaust pops. That's bit tricky without affecting too much normal driveablility of the car. For example you can't force the vanos to be on by modifying Heavy throttle map without significantly losing top end power. But try editing the lowest row on light throttle map ;) You might find the reason:

I did some testing with decel.
The goal was (and still is): stock, quiet and calm below 3500 rpm. Light crackles from 3500-5000rpm for about 1-2 seconds. Over 5000 just straight madness (like a gunshot with a flame) after going WOT.

First i had some crackles under 4000 rpm. Nothing after WOT and over 4000.
Couple iterations...all pretty much s***.
Then i turned fast decreasing throttle off completely, because it would shut of fuel immediatly (looking at the mpg gauge). I set min. rpm over my limitier so this criteria for fast decreasing tps never could be met.

The result is: very nice crackles down low, not to much. Over 4000 after going WOT or letting of from steady cruise i get like 2 smaller crackles. It seems to me that there is some sort of change happening at 4000 rpm. slightly below crackles are longer and little louder.

Looking for input from you guys on that 4000 rpm thing, anyone had something similar?

Attached is a log with my latest settings.

I noticed that after going wot the ignition timing is spiking instead of decreasing....confused...

I had exactly this problem, nothing from WOT until RPM dropped to 4Krpm then all pops and bangs, Definitely something activating/Deactivating here but i gave up in the end.

Thanks for the input i will get back to testing as soon as the car is running semi right. (I am the guy who built the M52B20 stroker with the M51D25 crank from the youtube comments). Its in the car and driving but on low rpm and medium load knock detection has its own mind it seems...

Will report back when i have been able to test

Change the axis value to 6000rpm or whatever. This is an interpolation ecu issue

I was making a new exhaust for my car today, and had a chance to cruise before adding the muffler... let me tell you, this is VERY obnoxious with a straight pipe exhaust lol:

Also, since ditching the previous exhaust, my 6psi spring is now creeping to 14psi by 6500rpm :|

Yeah that is what I meant in some of my previous post. If you want to make it louder, just swap to straight exhaust :D

So bit of movement.......
as already said here there is weirdness with the pops and bangs not happening from WOT when letting off from top end around 7Krpm but then when it falls to around 4K the pops and bangs kick off.

The only way i have now got this to work from WOT at high RPM is to turn the Vanos on in this area, It is loosing top end power and not sure what to do but will keep experimenting.

I am trying different things between a Silver 97 Auto and a Techno 98 Manual. The Silver 97 Auto is the focus of my efforts.

This is my 3rd attempt and I finally got the pops close to what I want.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxnAH ... 25TcEJtVGM
Maps Adjusted:
Fuel Restore- Anyone has any thoughts on this or any reason why I should just take it to the limit?
Ignition Retard Decreasing TPS- I feel good about this.
Ignition Retard Decreasing TPS (closed)- I edited this to make the pops more consistent, I feel as though it did. Someone correct me if I was wrong.

I have no interest in adjusting the rev hang on the automatic. In my experience, I lose control of the pops if I adjust the rev hang.

I have no idea what I am doing so any feedback helps.
Thank you, everyone, these threads have been very helpful getting started

Edit: Forgot to mention the silver car has SS long-tube reps, S50 mid section and genuine SS Muffler. I will soon post a video with a different modified mid section.

Edit#2 Video with modified mid section https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxnAH ... XNEdXF4emc (more of a straight through-muffler)
And I have also added a log.
Again, any feedback is appreciated.

How does it reacte after WOT say around 6000rpm ? i ask as i have had exact same type of outcome as you have now at low RPM but when letting off after WOT at high RPM i get nothing.

Nothing until I'm below 4k
I don't mind it but in can see why it would be nice to be able to keep the effect throughout the rev range.

So i have been giving an idea by a friend.
He owns here in the UK a Renault Clio 172 that has a crackle map.
Basically when coming off throttle he has easy flames and bangs every time.
It apparently has a lot of retard off throttle and we know how this work but to keep air passing through the engine the ICV is tuned in a way that allows this to happen.

Im not sure if this would work on the E36 but im wondering if anyone has any experience doing this or knows if it could be done.
This way you dont have to feather/Open the throttle to create the flames and bangs.

So if you want bangs and flames here is what you need to do to you ignition table in the first column.
Focus on the -10 retard, i start it from 4100rpm as i don`t want it going on lower down the rev range.
17.275
17.275
19.15
23.65
24.775
26.65
30.775
32.275
33.775
-10.85
-10.85
-10.85
-10.475
-10.85
-10.475
-10.1

We then have the fueling, I just added a little from 4100rpm and up as again i dont want anything going on lower down when cruising.
0.944
0.9
0.872
0.9
0.88
0.872
0.864
0.84
0.876
2.6
2.6
2.572
2.572
2.576
2.648
2.6

This is all done for a controlled bang and flame, it wont do it automatically!!, when decelerating from top end i gently tap the throttle and the fun happens for a second creating big flame and pops. bang. Also when up to temp on gear change you get intermittent flames and pop. This works for me and i like the way it doesn't do it all the time only when you activate it, not to say that it will work for all of you .Sharing the love :)

Nice will give this a try
So with this do you also change any maps in the deccel section or just the above
