Here's a clip and the log file of testing some exhaust pops. I'm not sure if its good or crappy. http://youtu.be/dzzEKx_8kYU

For these effects has a large impact also set the camshafts. Overlap etc.You have to try to be with VANOS "on".When deceleration Vanos is "off".

Log Load during decel. Then adjust the (light throttle) VANOS tables to values above or below this to set VANOS off or on during decel. For example, if you see that Load is generally 100 mg/stroke during decel then if you set the VANOS table minimum loads to 200mg/stroke then VANOS will be off during decel. But if you set it to 50mg/stroke, VANOS will be on during decel.

I'm going to experiment this evening with added timing to my decel retard table, then vanos will be next on the list.

It looks like you're seeing about 70mg/stroke during throttle off decel. If your VANOS (light throttle) tables are stock then this means VANOS is off during closed throttle decel. I guess you could try turning VANOS on during decel by lowering your 'minimum load' thresholds to 50 mg/stroke.

Changed my decel retard table to add -30 this time instead of -40 degrees. The -30 made it less explosive. I'm sure some more fine tuning will get it right.
The logs aren't that good. I did them when I was coming home from dinner and I had someone following me so I didn't want to look too ridiculous.
neg30pops.csv is exactly what it is.
neg30pops_vanos_on.csv is the above but with what I believe is setting the vanos to be on above a load of 50mg/stroke.
the screen shot is my vanos light throttle table.
I just got a working copy of the RR logger so all of my logs will be with that including AFR from here on out. BMW Logger doesn't export the AFR to CSV. Garbage.

do you have ms412? this table like AT light throttle. why your rpm axis so small range? it seems your vanos is OFF after 4128 rpm. stock MT is: Attachment: Untitled-1.jpg

Ms41.1. I have VANOS set to ON all the way to 5500 RPM on the 2D heavy throttle table.

Glad to see this BMW engine responds in the same way as a Subaru engine to decel pop tuning! lol Once there are logs with AFR, we can figure out how we should tune the decel fueling. Though, it can be a little tricky sometimes to gauge AFR with a wideband when you are trying to achieve a controlled misfire because the Wideband is measuring left over oxygen molecules and a misfire has lots of left over oxygen even though the actual combustion AFR is much richer. So you might see the AFR reading lean which is not a true measurement of what's happening in the cylinder. Any 1st impressions with leaving the VANOS on during decel? Unfortunately, those logs are unreadable since all columns are smashed together in one column.
