Hi All, just recently got into MS41 tuning having previously worked with Standalone ECU's for many years.

Forgive me as I learn my way through this, I have used the search box already but may not be searching for the correct items.

I have a E36 328i Sport UK model that I am currently learning with. This is a 01/1997 model without OBD2 (20 Pin connector only).

I have download the software as listed on OpenMS41's website and using the tutorials listed on the forum.

I am using this comms cable from amazon:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09DD4F84Q? ... title&th=1

with this adapter cable

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B6BNFHNB? ... asin_title

My first issue came if If I perform a full read using the MS41 Quickflash tool, if I open the file inside RoomRaider, I cannot see any maps or data inside it, is this normal? If I perform a partial read I can see all the maps and the data looks like what I would expect. This doesn't change whether I select "Fast read" or not.

I have not bridged Pins 14 to 18 yet on the 20pin connector, though I was under the impression this is for write only?

The second issue I have is inside MS41 Quickflash tool, with ignition on, I can read codes and live data (with values that look normal, operate the throttle pedal tps voltage moves up etc). However as soon as I start the vehicle, the comms cable disconnects from the laptop, and will sit there disconnecting and reconnecting. I can see it in device manager doing this.

I have purchased another comms cable (this time a cheap one from ebay), is there any comms cable people would recommend to purchase? I am always a little weary about cheap comms cable, after bricking a Rover K series ECU a few years ago using a cheap cable!

Thank you all.

this due to interferance from ignition coils when running, engine is a electromagnetically noisy place,
wiring an obd2 port using wires to ews module, then you can log without an issue, remmber to keep the 20pin cover removed
