Hey folks!
I have a m54b30 with a stock intake cam and a m52b28 non vanos exhaust cam, with the stock m54 exhaust vanos deleted, being run by a stock tune ms41.1 from the m52b28 single vanos in a 98 z3 essentially its just a m54 long block with all the m52 intake exhaust etc. the issue I've been having I can't get a good stock cam degree setup for it to idle well. I'm seeing between -6* to 2-4* intake cam phasing at idle, no change up to 3500-4000rpm revving at a standstill, but I am able to actuate the vanos using my old mt-2500 at idle and I can't see what the vanos actuation is moving the cam degree too because of the scanner. just that it is working at idle it makes it run like crap when activated at idle. I'm not sure where to go with this one. I know I need a better data logger to be able to see what's going on, but also can anyone explain the stock cam degree table for both the m52 and m54, I've been just trial and error trying to set it correctly for the best idle and nothing seems to work. since it has two different generations of cams it can't be set by the book because they are both set differently. ive tried combinations of both procedures and neither get a good idle. lastly the I noticed the m52 exhaust cam has a shorter duration than the m54 cam but the same lift. I'm not sure if thats complicating things as well. and im wondering if I need to change something in the flash, or just keep fiddling with it till it works. I'm really stuck anyone have any suggestions?
