I am pleased to announce that a reflashing kernel for SH7051 based ECUs is now available! With a lot of hand-holding from fenugrec to get over that last few humps, I've successfully re-written a 256kb 2000 Maxima ECU. I've only done a few writes, but haven't encountered any issues with the current version of the kernel. You can download the pre-compiled kernel here.

You need to ensure you have updated your nisprog executable is current as of at least Jun 18, 2020 at least for the correct block definitions. Nisprog is also available here.

Is this 7051 the one which doesn't have AUD and SH-bootmode functionality? And in case of failure you'd need a new ECU or parallel programmer tool to get it back to life?

It doesn't have AUD. It does have BOOT mode, but it's not natively supported with Renesas FDT. Attempting to de-brick would certainly be more difficult!

I have a program, old one for this CPU. Have support for writing SH7051.



It may help with debricking. I didn't check writing. Because i don't have a full rom for my Subaru with this CPU.
If someone can adapt nisprog for reading this ecu... than i could check.

That honestly surprises me haha Do you own any Nissans? Couldn’t imagine going through the pain of writing a kernel just for you to not even benefit from it with your personal vehicles!

I have a 2003 Maxima and a 2007 Titan.

Fortunately most of the code was common to 7055 so I didn't have to reinvent, just tweak. I'd have never been able to develop it from scratch.
