Hello, I replaced the engine in my 2006 2.5l NA 5MT Liberty (legacy) no AVCS with a 2008 engine with AVCS. I discovered the AVCS during fitting, so I have fitted the old inlet manifold and ancillaries. The engine runs and the vehicle is drives quite well, but idle is a problem due to the valve timing.
The vehicle is ADM spec and the 2006 has no AVCS. The computer is 22611AL620 (U7) I have sourced a 2008 computer 22611AN280 (FA) which has 4AT rom I think.
First question is what is the difference in the computers? I see from the wiring diagrams that each year is very different in connector pinouts. Do the different issue codes (AL & AN) have different internal hardware or is the wiring change handled in software?
Is my best approach to graft the new computer into the wiring loom and then flash the 2008 5MT rom or is there some other option?
thanks

Forget even trying to change the computer or grafting the loom .Clean the throttle body and the idle should come good.you're done everything else correct just be happy with that cheers. ... : :

The AVCS cams default to either max advance or max retard when there is no signal. I'm not sure about the intake cams but exhaust cams go to max advance.
The simplest solution would be to adjust the cam gear's position within the timing belt to put the cam at the same angle as a non-AVCS cam. It would probably just require an adjustment of one or two teeth from the "correct" position.

Intake AVCS is retarded with OCV disconnected. EJ253 has a cam position sensor some AVCS equiped engines may not have this sensor. You are not free to advance the cam 1-2 teeth without the cam sensor moving clockwise the same way.
NSFW: I still doubt that exhaust AVCS is advanced to maximum with OCV disconnected. The more the ExAVCS angle the low RPM spool while LGT tuning. This proves me that ExAVCS is retarded to max with OCV disconnected.
