Can Subaru ECU have read-protected firmware?

Hi.
I need to read ECU firmware from Subaru WRX STI 2002. Before me this Subaru was flashed, can ECU have protect from read? And what do with ECU if I try to read protected firmware :?:

Have Tactrix 1.3 and Tactrix 2.0.

Hi, if its flashedby ECUTek software you need to go to a dealer to unlock it or use subaru ecuedit.

But if software protected and I try to read it, ECU will not bricks?
