I am in the market for a new laptop. The primary use will be for tuning purposes and internet browsing. I'm looking to spend under $1200 if possible. I haven't been in the computer market in quite some time and also am a novice when it comes to most computer specs., ie.. processor speeds etc.. Any recommendations would be great Thanks, Brock

I bought a couple of $500ish laptops 3-4 years ago that work great for logging and tuning. It really doesn't take much. I don't know if it's even possible to buy a new laptop that doesn't have enough horsepower for this, at least not anymore. 1gb RAM, 40gb hard drive, Core 2 or better, and you'll be fine. 2gb RAM, > 100 gb hard drive, Core 2 Duo, and still only half of your budget: http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/notebook ... =1~MRT66HNI have no experience with Dell laptops, that's just a random example. I'm a big fan of high-resolution displays, so I can get more info on the screen at once (more low rows, bigger scatter plots in Excel, more tables in EcuFlash / RR, etc).

For what it's worth, I use an HP mini netbook with a solid state drive I got for $250. Screen is small but, I do detailed work on my desktop system anyway.

I use a Dell laptop from 2001 with a slow a$$ Celeron processor. You'll be fine with anything new. The biggest gripe with mine is that the battery only holds about 10 minutes of charge, so I'm stuck with my inverter most of the time. When I do upgrade, I'll get a netbook that will fit in my glovebox. My only two concerns for a logging laptop would be size and battery life. I use my desktop for editing tables.

I use to have a Compaq with the old school Pentium Celeron 600mhz, and that worked fine.
IMO, as long as no BSOD or crashes, that should be good enough for tuning. A great battery life is a plus!

I have an HP Mini that do most of my tuning with.. it works great but the screen is a little small (10"). My Mac book pro 17 is a little large to be taking out tuning all the time... I think the Dell 12" is a pretty good compromise (we have some of these at work). Little larger screen is nice, yet it's not a huge machine. I would also LOVE a mac book pro 13 for tuning
