We all have good stories to tell, and theres millions when it come to mechanical diagnosis and repairs that we all hear. Do you have any good ones to tell?

I will start with my cousin, he told me his car would not start in the mornings, I said "oh yeah what do you reakon is wrong with it" he said " its the compression, its leaking out all night after I turn it off and theres not enough left in the morning to start it" I couldnt resist so I told him to go buy a tin of compression and pour a bit in each morning to get it going.

My favorite is the idea that dumping in a quart of lucas oil stabilizer will take care of rod knock. I seem to hear it often.

stock block does not have sleeves. The case halves are cast and machined from a single pour.

very few engines are sleeved from the factory

Oh god man... The number of times I've been given an earful about my views on backpressure.... Don't even get me started

Crack a nice bottle of red tonight and Im sure you will come up with some beautys.

By the way, I love Auckland, we only got to stay 1 day there before we caught the Overlander train to go south. New Zealand is beautiful place and the people are great.

I can't think of any great ones off the top of my head, but in college my instructor told the whole class that aftermarket exhaust systems didn't do anything for performance these days because they are designed so well...
I asked him why it made such a power difference in my WRX (at the time), and he said it was all in my head.

I had some similar experiences with co-workers when I started modding my LGT. :) To be fair, people whose only experience with modding has been with NA cars often to end up with experiences that support the placebo theory, or at least it seems that way to them... They just don't realize that turbo cars are a whole other story.

Local guy that fitted a centrifugal supercharger to his LS1 V8 with a stock 1 bar map sensor... It ran 'well' on the stock ECU for months according to his claim. It even managed to beat a 1.6L SOHC VTEC Honda once...

Ok when I was full time mechanic,
Car gets towed into workshop and owner is standing outside, I say to him, "whats up with you car mate?" it "ran out of petrol" he says, I said "why didnt you just put some more petrol in it? " oh well he says, " it was late at night and I thought to myself, petrol floats on water so If I fill fuel tank with a bit of water , fuel will rise up enough to get me home" he used garden hose from nearby house to fill er up with water.
